Whatever Baldur's Gate 3 dev Larian ends up doing next, it will probably be in early access too

Baldur's Gate 3 dev Larian definitely isn't making a sequel, but whatever its next game is, it will definitely go down the early access route.

Last month, many Baldur's Gate 3 fans across the world likely shed a tear when Larian CEO Swen Vincke said that the studio has no plans to make a sequel or even any expansions. Vincke shared that Larian will be moving on to something else, leaving the Baldur's Gate IP in the hands of its owners Wizards of the Coast to do something else with. Considering the fact that Baldur's Gate 3 is still regularly getting updates, and the full release isn't even a year old yet, it's unlikely we'll see what's next for Larian for a while yet, but in a recent interview with Game File (thanks, Kotaku), Larian's head of publishing Michael Douse did talk about release plans for the studio's follow-up.

Speaking of self-publishing and early access, Douse said "This is the only way to do it now." He went on to note how marketing has cratered, and that an early access release allows a developer to create "social resonance" while less and less games make a big impression on players. Important is that Douse doesn't say that this is something everyone can do, and if you don't know how to do it, don't just do so heedlessly, but it did help Larian work on Baldur's Gate's strong gameplay loop, as well as build a community. And for the next game, Douse said it "will also probably be in early access."

Baldur's Gate 3's latest hotfix should stop an intellect devourer cheekily messing up your quick breaks

Hello there again, Baldur's Gate 3 people. How are your lives going? Hold on, it'll have to wait, there's a newly released hotfix just arrived, and it does things, as per. This time, its stopping your gang's chill time from being prevented by a naughty walking brain.

Yep, after the last one stopped you from conning merchants out of their hard-earned cash using some sneaky box-based tricks, this one stops an NPC from pranking you. Life, you see, it moves in cycles and, as George Lucas might say, it sometimes rhymes. Ok, I'll stop it, since this is just a minor update to a video game.

The set of notes that accompanies hotfix 24 - which has gone live today - is quite snappy, so I'll keep it snappy from here on out, as I always do. The main news is this: Larian's "fixed an issue preventing you from taking a Short Rest when having added and dismissed Us with a companion party member and then loaded certain savegames."

Hotfix #24 Now Live!

Hello everyone,

We’re continuing to improve stability and performance in Baldur’s Gate 3 and have another small hotfix going live today that addresses some bugs and performance issues!

Unable to Short Rest? A bug was preventing some players from taking a Short Rest when having added and then dismissed Us with a companion party member, before then loading certain savegames. We've had some kind but firm words with this adorable intellect devourer, and power naps are now back on the schedule.

Mac players, we have now resolved an issue introduced in a previous Hotfix that was causing performance and FPS drops on the platform. Update your game with this latest hotfix, and check that you are on version 4.1.1.5009956!

As with previous updates, if you’re experiencing any issues after installing this latest hotfix, please check whether the issue persists with all mods uninstalled. If you continue to experience this issue after uninstalling mods, please contact our support team and submit a full report to help us solve your issue.

We continue to work on further fixes and patches, but in the meantime, thank you for playing Baldur’s Gate 3!
