Baldur's Gate 3's lead romance quest designer thinks sex speedruns are "just grand"

One of the developers responsible for putting together Baldur's Gate 3’s excellent companion and romance quests has revealed that they’ve got absolutely no problem with the amusing sex speedruns the game has spawned.

Whether the target is to record an incredibly rapid romance route leading directly to the underpants of a certain Githyanki warrior or to blaze a complex trail in the direction of that encounter with a certain bear, speedrunners have gotten up to a whole bunch of wacky hijinks in BG3 since August. Plenty of people, including all of us here at VG247 (I’m tentatively including Tom in this, he’s probably at least cracked half a smile), have been thoroughly entertained, and it seems the folks who made the game haven’t been immune to that.

Speaking to Inverse, Baudelaire Welch, who served as lead designer for the companion character and romance quests in the game, discussed how they feel about people on the internet competing to shag the characters they had a hand in creating as quickly as possible.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a fantastic RPG, one which has rightly been sweeping the game of the year awards. Aside from its story and characters, it also offers a huge amount of flexibility, letting you do pretty much anything. However, as has been revealed, that includes piling on so much armor that you become unkillable.

Be careful, recording Baldur's Gate 3's adult scenes on Xbox might net you a temporary ban

There's a non-zero chance that there's more of you out there so listen up: it seems that if you record any of the more titillating scenes from Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox, your account could get banned.

Before we press on, let's all agree to be mature here, ok? I've seen the fanart you've all been retweeting, so no judging the person on Reddit who got their account banned for recording some of the more intimate scenes in Baldur's Gate 3. As shared over on the game's subreddit by user Daddy-Vegas (great name), it appears that recording clips of "some naked camp time fun," as they put it, you can get a temporary ban on your account.

"Xbox, by default, uploads all recorded clips to the server for easy sharing," explains Daddy-Vegas in their Reddit post. "Each clip counted as a different infraction and got my account banned for a year. I'm hoping the appeals process fixes this, but as of now; I can't play any game that requires a network connection (Basically making all the money I put into MW3 over the last 6 months even more worthless)."

Baldur's Gate 3 is, somehow, once again rising on Steam. Despite coming out around five months ago and being an RPG, not a live service multiplayer retention drain, Larian's work continues to speak for itself as more and more players seem to be either coming back to or trying the game out for the first time.

Baldur's Gate 3 completes its Game of the Year sweep with top honor in the 2023 Steam Awards

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Baldur's Gate 3 has claimed the Game of the Year award in the 2023 Steam Awards, along with the crown for Outstanding Story-Rich Game. It probably would have won even more, but the Steam Awards rules limit games to nominations in a maximum of two categories, presumably to avoid any across-the-board ass-kickings...
