Plasma Dragon Concept Revealed

I'd like to introduce to you all the Plasma Dragon. A dragon with the ability to turn itself invisible and that acts as a glass cannon class in the game, high damage ranged plasma shot with low health. Fast in the air, a little clumsy on the ground and in water, this dragon was made to fly and stalk the night.

The Plasma Dragon (official name to be revealed later) is our 3rd custom dragon concept to be revealed and completes the Rock < Paper < Scissors dynamic in the base game. Also revealed is the Plasma Dragon Egg which would be incubated by the Plasma Dragon when our nesting system is implemented.

Stay tuned for more updates and reveals here in our News feed!

Dev Blog #1

Hello everyone!

We are excited to share our first development blog with you all!

Anywho, say hello to (part) of your development team! The rest will introduce themselves in the next development blog.
Bad Parrot
Hello! I am the Creature Anatomy & Physiology, Creature Sketch Artist, AI Behaviour Developer on the team. I help guide the modelers and animators to create awesome and realistic dragons and creatures. I have a bachelors degree in Zoology as well as 6+ years working with native wildlife in a triage environment. My background working hands on with species ranging from hummingbirds to bald eagles, deer mice to bobcats, gives me the tools I need to help bring the dragons of DOD to life.

I also help out with the discord while we are working to make improvements and force everyone to write paragraphs for the dev blogs. Oh, and I have parrots which are bad.
Rosedragon016
I am Rose, I work with the team as a dragon design and history consultant as well as a bug tester. I have loved dragons since I was a child and fondly remember reading every dragon book I could get my hands on and reading them cover to cover. That passion and desire for dragons has stayed with me to this day and drives me to learn everything that I can about dragons and their place in the history and cultures of the world.
Midnight
Hello!

I am the Community manager for Day of Dragons. I am in charge of all social media pertaining to Day of Dragons as well have taken over the responsibility of the Official Day of Dragons discord after recent events. These duties entail leading the mods, admins, and making the discord more streamline to fit the community’s needs. I also help answer development questions, respond to emails involving kickstarter and was forced to write this by Bad Parrot. Some things I enjoy are bagels, fancy coffee, pvp and bats. Hope to see you all around :).

Subnautica, Natural selection 2, Die young, Die young: prologue, EM8ER.

Fun facts about me:

I am part dragon.

I don't even really design dragon sounds, I summon the dragon spirit and just shout in to a microphone.

You know the game Skyrim?, well, that's based on the true story of my life.

My favorite color is dragon.
Dev Q&A
In addition to sharing our work and behind the scenes information in the development blogs, we will also be answering a handful of questions from our discord community in each blog. To start us off, we picked some interesting model related ones!
Question One
Q: Hi! Was just wondering, are there going to be different models for the dragons in different stages of lifecycle? Like will baby dragons look more baby-like or just be miniature versions of adult models? Thanks!

BP: There will be different life stages for each species, including an adorable baby model. Dragons will age through progressive growth into their adult models. Some species will also have a final growth stage known as the alpha stage, where their models will slowly change into elder dragons.
Question Two
Q: Will there be different body styles of dragons? drakes, wyrms, eastern, etc?

BP: Yes and no. At this time, we currently have plans for classic dragons, wyverns, and drakes.
From the Community
Starting next blog, we will be sharing our favorite screenshots and fan art from the community! If you'd like the chance for your work to be shared in our upcoming blogs, feel free to share them with us in our discord community.

The Creepy Crawlies of DoD

The world of DoD is as unique and diverse as our own. Dragons aren't the only creatures scurrying about. Here is a introduction to two of the many species of AI planned in the future.
Thornbacked Crawler
Small insect-like creatures, the Thornbacked Crawler can be found almost all over the world. Their diet consists of decaying carcasses and unguarded dragon eggs, making them either a great clean-up crew or a bothersome pest depending on the situation. The main defense of the Thornbacked Crawlers is their formidable thorn-like spines located on their back. However, these small creatures can become a tasty meal for hatchling dragons that learn to overcome this obstacle.
Bulbous Spined Scrab
The Bulbous Spined Scrab got its named from the shape of its abdomen and the poison-filled spines which it can retract at will. Females are over twice the size of their male counter parts which are roughly the size of a dragon’s egg. Curious by nature, Bulbous Spined Scrabs will often study its adversary before deciding its next move. A grand meal for any young dragon, hatchlings must be careful how they approach this creature. The Scrab’s spines follow its target and can easily puncture a hatchling’s skin. If only there was a way to distract it…

These and more unique AI species will be joining the world of DOD starting in 2020. Stay tuned for updates and join our discord for sneak peeks at more custom content.
