Looks like Fall Guys is getting private lobbies

Fall Guys is one of the surprise hits of the year. The delightful bumble royale has sold over seven million units sold on Steam alone and is the most downloaded PlayStation Plus game ever. While it's endearing to see a hit come out of nowhere, it does mean that Mediatonic has to consider new features that the developer didn't think it would need.

Part of the new PC game's success comes from having blown up on Twitch, which has led to an upcoming Twitch Rivals tournament. While games with esports ambitions typically offer custom lobbies or servers, Fall Guys doesn't have that just yet as the scale of success it has had couldn't really have been anticipated. In an interview with The Loadout reports, however, some form of private lobbies will be introduced when the developer figures out how it would make sense in the world it's built.

"It's still early days, but it's something we hear a desire for," game designer Joe Walsh says. "Fall Guys is ultimately a TV show, and people want to be the director, they want to run their own show. We totally hear the demand for that, but it'll take us a little while to figure out what that looks like exactly. But it's on our list of things to do."

Fall Guys tops seven million units sold on Steam alone

August 26, 2020 Fall Guys has now sold seven million units on Steam.

Fall Guys continues to be extremely popular, even as we're forced to play Team Tail Tag for the zillionth time. It's a freebie for PlayStation players keeping their multiplayer subscription up, but on Steam you've gotta spend money for it - and it seems players are happy to do so.

Fall Guys has now sold a total of seven million units on Steam, just over three weeks after launch, as publisher Devolver Digital confirms on Twitter. That's up from two million copies on week one, so the success of the game clearly isn't slowing down just yet.

The Fall Guys player count hit a new concurrent Steam player record over the weekend of of 172,213, as SteamDB shows. The PlayStation edition is also wildly successful, even among the standards of PS Plus giveaways - it's the most-downloaded PS Plus game ever.

Yoko Taro wants a Nier Automata skin in Fall Guys

Fall Guys is beyond 'hit' at this point, so I think it's time we upgraded our verbiage to 'phenomenon'. Everyone's talking about it, including Nier Automata director Yoko Taro, and he wants to bring his world of sad androids into the actually-similar-when-you-think-about-it existential terror of Fall Guys.

As part of a Fall Guys stream celebrating the birthday of Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito, Taro says he wants to do a Nier x Fall Guys collaboration. "I think the machine lifeform costume would be really cute," Taro says, as translated by Mediatonic's own Ed Fear. "Or an Emil head!" Since Fear was already in chat as it happened, it looks like the two studios are on the fast track to make this collaboration a reality.

"I mentioned in that livestream chat that I worked at Mediatonic and Yoko Taro saw it," Fear says on Twitter. "Now I have been asked to tell the team officially that the Nier team at Square Enix really wants to do it."

Fall Guys dev will take "more immediate action" against cheaters "soon"

August 24, 2020 Fall Guys developer Mediatonic has promised to take "more immediate action" in banning cheaters more swiftly.

Not even Fall Guys is safe from hackers. Since the cute bumble royale stumbled on the scene recently, some players have taken to using cheats and exploits to snag victories. Thankfully, the game's developer, Mediatonic, is switching up how it deals with cheaters to get them out the game faster.

"Dealing with cheaters is a top priority for us," reads a tweet from the game's Twitter account. "At the moment, when a cheater is detected, they are able to finish the current show before being blocked. We are going to start taking more immediate action soon. As mentioned before: It isn't necessary to manually report cheaters."

Seeing hacked beans is as odd as you'd think. Fall Guys cheats involve players making their jelly bean faster than everyone else's and immune to being knocked back by various objects. While it's all quite amusing to see in action, it's good that it's being looked into. If you'd like to see some bumbling super beans zipping across the map, you can check out the Tweet below. Despite the hacker's advantage, they still can't clutch the victory - oh my.
