[Designer Talk] When designing this character, what were we thinking? (①)
Hello everyone, I am one of the designers that responsible for the background story of the game character, you can call me Xiaoyun.
To be honest, when I first saw Aliénor's new drawing, I was really amazed.
The delicate pink roses are wrapped around the iron cage, blooming thriving; the girl with bunchies is leaping for joy in front of the rose blooming on the iron cage. Although the literal meaning of "Deep Court Rose" may be a kind of quiet beauty. But what new drawing shows me more is the vividness of a young girl, a kind of extroverted beauty that has finally broken free from a certain cage and shackles. Revolving around the opposition between calmness and exaggeration, as well as around the key image of "rose", I started searching for reference materials.
The rose is respected as the national flower by many western countries, and the language of flowers has long been a well-known concept. The delicate petals and sharp thorns are perhaps the simplest and most intuitive duality concept. But beyond that, what other details about roses can be used in her story?
Finally, I found a detail that opened my mind. In the long history that rose has traveled with many western countries, there is such a history. "In Rome, people would place a wild rose on the door of a room where secrets or confidential issues were discussed. Derived from this ancient Roman custom, the phrase "sub rosa" or "under the rose" appeared, meaning conservative secret."
Thus, for the first time, I had the idea of using the secret door decorated with wild roses as the key object in her background story.
This secret door of roses, which has also become one of the key objects that influenced Aliéno's later life.
