Hotfix demo.1.2 & AVAST

Note for AVAST anti-virus users:
If you have trouble installing the demo, try checking the anti-virus log and manually adding Regiments.exe into the exclusion list. Avast seems to mark Regiments.exe as an "IDP.generic" threat due to the built-in automatic crash reporter.

Along with bug fixes, this update adds several requested features:

  • Added hotkeys to hide UI & Cursor - check Controls settings
  • Added ability to invert Camera Y Axis rotation
  • Fixed SAM-vs-planes engagements: missiles can now properly apply suppression and damage to the planes.
  • Adjusted objective zone visuals for better clarity, both on the main map and the minimap.

  • Bugfixes for several script errors

Restart Steam to force it to check for updates.

Regiments - Video Update

"If the V Corps counter-attack was to succeed, they needed to deal with the Soviet 39th Motor Rifle Division remnants. Though depleted by earlier fighting, it still held fast.
V Corps commander placed 4-34 Armor at the spearhead. 'Wreak havoc', he said - for nothing less than a quick & violent breach was acceptable.

There has been a dearth of updates for the past few months, but the work didn't stop. I'm going to address the lack of news in the spirit of the famous Chekhov quote, "Show, don't tell".
Here's a short gameplay video, showing a US Armored task force, attacking an entrenched second-line Soviet motor rifle battalion.

This video focuses solely on tactical combat. Reinforcements, replenishment, and task force composition are left out of its scope.
Keep in mind that it's still a pre-release version with quite a few more improvements scheduled before release.

In future updates, I'll go over the details of new mechanics and map improvements.

Regiments' November 2020 update details camouflage and tactical markings

Regiments is one of the more exciting wargames on our radar for 2021, shaping up to be the Wargame successor we've been wanting for a while. Given that it's still a ways off yet, details are coming through at a slow pace. It's fine - we don't expect devs to force a dev-log when there's nothing to talk about, but it does make it hard to not get excited when an update does land.

The game's November 2020 update focuses more on aesthetics over gameplay and looks at what the game is doing in the realm of camouflage and tactical markings. The Cold War - as we explored in our time with Mobius Front '83 - saw a rapid rise in weapons technology that challenged a lot of the assumptions that came out of the immediate aftermath of the Second World War. The dominance of the MBT is still something that hasn't quite been resolved, even today, and this issue was coming to the fore during the post-war period.

According to the devs, both NATO and the Warsaw Pact were experimenting with camouflage for their armoured units stationed in Germany. NATO would favour camos that fitted their surroundings, while the PACT would use cheaper camos that made vehicles harder to identify at range (as engagement ranges ballooned during this era).
