Devlog #37 "Be thorough with your search routine"

Going through different location within the game will be ripe with dangers and threats... but also opportunities.

There are moments when you have to use what is currently at your disposal. There are also moments when you don't even have a single thing ready to use for the current situation in your backpack. As you've seen in the playtests there will be opportunities for you to find certain items and depending on the place you will find yourself those can be quite varied. Of course, you will find different items in households and different ones in engineering rooms at NPP. As you can see on the screenshots below some place might be better suited and important to search through than others. Some are easier to travel through, some more difficult.

We're making sure to prepare a variety of different locations for you - and combined with that are your chances for finding something... or anything! Buried in rubble you might still find something useful or valuable that will help you in your journey, however you always need to curb your expectations. It's not so easy to find helpful objects and not every room will contain them - especially if it's almost completely destroyed one. What we really want to convey to you is however the fact that it always pays off to be thorough and perceptive.

Now look at the room in the screenshot above. Now, that is a place that simply invites you to check through every nook and cranny. Aside from finding an occasional syringe or other medicine it's also important to look around and check the environment itself. While not every item might be interactable we've put a lot of work into making sure that the locations you'll be moving through will retain the appropriate feeling. We're filling them with variety of items, decor or even posters. Those rooms fulfilled a certain role in the NPP and as such they were not barren nor empty. Notes and tools scattered around, items left in a hurry or everyday objects placed here and there are all a part of our big process of building an appropriate atmosphere for particular scenes.

Thank you for your attention this week and see you again soon!

Kind regards,
Chernobyl Liquidators Simulator Team

Chernobyl Liquidators Simulator - Playtests Summary!

Thank you very much for your participation in our Playtests!
You'll be able to check the demo of the game on Steam Next Festival in June 16!
We are extremely happy to see how many of you took part in our playtests and even more to see how much of a valuable feedback we've been able to collect throughout the playtests period.

Right now we'll be focusing on making sure that we can take from your thoughts, opinions and ideas as much as we physically can and put it to good use. We want to create a great game and we know that you want to play it. And we can definitely understand your interest as it makes us invigorated and ready for further challenges!

And speaking of future opportunities and challenges - be ready for the Steam Next Fest that will start on June, 16th! We will be sure to be there with the demo for Chernobyl Liquidators Simulator and we can't wait to see you enjoy yourself and play though it!

We are happy to showcase some of the information we've gathered during our playtests - we're monitoring all results very closely and the survey itself will be scrutinized and analysed by our CLS Team to make sure we gain as much as possible from your feedback and ratings. Still - we can safely say that the playtests were a success and we've received a lot of very encouraging and positive opinions from all of you - most of you were ready to say that the game has a lot of potential and you cannot wait to see more and believe us - we simply can't wait to see your reactions after more of our game will be accessible.

As you can see above we are interested in checking the demographic of our playtests. It's always interesting to see which country and region is the most interested in the game we're trying hard to create. It shouldn't shock anyone to find Russian Federation on the list and we can also let you know that Ukraine placed highly on the list (in the "Others" category). It should be safe to assume that the topic of Chernobyl NPP Catastrophe is particularly close to heart for the residents of those countries. However, we are also pleased to see many other citizens of countries from around the globe willing to test the game. We are happy to see that the topic of the catastrophe will receive some recognition in furthest part of the world.

Interestingly enough, this particular graph question tried to check whether you managed to finish the playtest. Overwhelmingly, it seems that most of you were able to do so - however we would like to pose a question to those of you who didn't - what did keep you from finishing the content presented in the playtest? We'd love to learn more in addition to what you've posted in the survey itself.

We have two additional notes to present to you in regarding to our playtests - perhaps to ease your minds.

1). We'd love to take a moment to remind you that we will be updating the minimum and recommended PC requirements for the game in the near future. Please, be on the lookout for that change!

2). All of the feedback you've posted in the Playtest Community Board is still available to us. You don't have to worry that it was deleted - we have it all archived and available to the team at any moment. And we appreciate it as you've posted a lot of very interesting feedback. Thank you once again!

Thank you for tuning in this week and once again - thank you for participating in the playtests!

Kind regards,
Chernobyl Liquidators Simulator Team

Devlog #36 "User Interface - information, notes and hints #2"

As we promised a week ago this time we check what important information Lt. Pravyk has to say...

You will not be simply dropped in the world of Chernobyl without any explanation whatsoever. We definitely can imagine that most of people following our project have quite a bit of understanding of the events that occurred in the NPP however we also are aware that fair share of our players might not be as knowledgeable about the situation that occured in 1986. That is why you will be able to learn a lot from the communication that will happen throughout your playthrough.

Obviously, we don't want to spoil too much for you at this point, however we are happy to show you that you will not be completely alone in the world of the game. While you might have to traverse through the empty deserted corridors and spaces by yourself, sometimes you will get contacted by other people - for example your superiors. They might explain the current situation, deliver further orders for you or simply check with you regarding your status. As you can see on the screenshots visible in this devlog sometimes they will have quite a lot to say.

You can expect them to offer some valuable intel or offer hints for your tasks to make them a little bit easier. Of course, we cannot vouch for the dialogues to be 100% accurate with discussions or orders that actually happened and were issued in the past however we've tried our best to emulate the possible tone and way of speaking and tried to make sure that the atmosphere contained within those lines properly reflect the spirit and emotional load appropriate for the catastrophe.

Keep in mind that while we're proud of our designs we always reserve ourselves the possibility of implementing changes to them - this time it also includes the text itself!

Thank you for checking with us this week and see you again soon!

Kind regards,
Chernobyl Liquidators Simulator Team
