Devlog #11 - ”Think, sketch, model, build!”
Hello Builders!
If you've ever wondered about our creative process and how does it look like to come up with the ideas - this devlog might be tailored just for you.
We were more than happy to share some of our concept arts with you recently - however this is not where the story of digital drawing ends. Concept art is a part of the whole design job but it is often used to set out the overall mood of the level and the setting where you will have the chance to then work and construct fantastic buildings. There are however additional steps that let us evaluate the buildings and plan then in greater details - this is especially true for the building that you will be able to see around the working field.

Grey sketch helps us out in seeing the more detailed outline of the building we're working on. It is also a great ground to experiment with different concepts for the particular place. As you can see in the picture we often work on many ideas at the same moment and only after a long deliberation we come to a conclusion. That does not mean that whatever we were thinking about but wasn't selected gets completely cut - we can still find some inspiration in work our artists have done and all in all it serves well in making sure that our game stays varied and interesting!

After deciding on a particular design colouring is another important part of the process as it let our 3D Artists and Level Designers then focus on their job with colours in mind. Inspiration can come from different sources and as Builder Simulator is a game heavily inspired by actual building processes we do our best to always stay on the look out for fantastic ideas. Who knows - sometimes just a simple walk around the town can give us a lot of fascinating thoughts that we're ready to ponder within the team.
Do note that concepts shown in the devlogs do not represent the final look of the game - we're improving daily and the final game will be even better than what we can show you right now!
However if you liked what you saw and want to see more of our concepts - by all means let us know in the comments below!
Thanks for tuning in this time!
Best regards,
Builder Simulator Team
