New Update Arrives! The Sage and his elemental ways

Hi everyone,
We are ready with another update introducing a new elemental power: Lightning. It inflicts damage to the enemy and enemies adjacent to it. Its damage increases with rain. We also made some changes to the intelligence attribute. There is a new character background too, The Sage, which is a good starting background for an intelligence based character.

Up until now, the game favored figthers, rangers and thiefs but a mage-like character who relied more on talent stones than sword or bow was very hard to build. We wanted to give intelligence attribute more importance and tied it to elemental damage. The more intelligence a character has, the more elemental damage (fire, ice, lightning) he will inflict with a talent stone.

Also meditation skill had some changes. It now increases elemental damage too. It has also some perks which reduces the stamina consumption of talent stones and later on, the cooldown time.

Intelligence also affects search and speechcraft. So with these changes, intelligence based characters have become significantly more powerful. Though it might still be harder to play than a tank character.

In this update, dexterity attribute gained some new features too. It now affects bleed and poison damage in addition to defense, ranged attack, critical hit etc.

There is another change which is about startsigns at the begining of the game. Starsigns were giving characters skill points for two different skills. We recognized this was kind of limiting what to choose. For example, you want to choose Athletics Skill but it comes with two handed weapon skill or some armor skill you don’t need. So we changed that. Now Starsigns give a skill point for one skill and a bonus starting item to go along with that. Like Minotaur Starsign gives athletic skill and a Copper Ring of Strength.

See below the full list of additions and changes.

ADDITIONS
  • Sage character added.
  • Lightning Strike talent stone added.
  • Lightning Arrow talent stone added.
  • 4 new hats added: Apprentice’s hat, Scholar’s Hat, Sage’s hat, Elder Owl’s hat. They have elemental resistance and defense default on them. They can have other powers with prefix and suffixes as well.

  • Starsign benefits changed.
  • Intelligence now affects elemental damage.
  • Dexterity now affects bleed and poison damage.

Development News: A New Elemental Power and Its Peculiarities

Hi everyone,

This week we worked on a new elemental power: Lightning. First two talent stones that use this power are Lightning Strike and Lightning Arrow. First one is for melee, second one is for ranged attack. The game has fire and ice since the beginning but lightning was missing, although it is a much beloved elemental power.

Lightning will affect the enemy it hits and all the enemies adjacent to it. It will harm the targeted enemy more than others. Rain will enhance the power of lightning significantly. In a similiar fashion, some aquatic creatures will be vulnerable to it. As usual, hero may buy these talent stones from the Adventurer’s Guild.
Besides the talent stones, there will be weapons with various levels of lightning power procedurally generated with suffixes like “Silver Mace of Lightning”.

We will give this power to some of the enemies too. Hero’s elemental resistance will now be more important since there will be another danger to deal with.

Patch notes for 0.694c

This is a small update with a small fix and a change.

Fixed an issue where the hero can't get xp from successful intimidation.

Changed how F key for keyboard ranged attack works. Before this, moving the mouse was closing keyboard range attack mode. We realized it led to some confussion. Now pressing F again, ESC key or left mouse click closes keyboard range attack mode. It is also written at the top of the screen.

A New Update Arrives! Brigands and Their Less than Graceful Combat Tactics…

Hi Everyone,
In this new update, we have a new character, new talent stones including push, and some other curiosities. See below the details.

ADDITIONS
  • A new character: Brigand. This character is similiar to thief but he uses two handed weapons and instead of swiftness, he has intimidation. Something like a tank thief. He starts with push and bleeding strike talent stones. He is one of the beginner friendly characters.

  • Push Talent Stone: Hero can push an enemy one square towards the opposite direction. If that square is occupied, the enemy gets stunned instead of being pushed. Enemies can be pushed to lava or deep water too. If they don't have flying ability, they die. Enemies with fire immunity can survive lava and aquatic enemies survive deep water. This talent stone brings some interesting and fun tactical options, especially when combined with other melee talent stones.
  • Circle of Poison Talent Stone: Conjures a circle of poison that has 30% chance to poison adjacent enemies that hit the hero.
  • Bleeding Arrow Talent Stone: Bleeds the enemy.
  • Toxic Arrow Talent Stone: Poisons the enemy and adjacent enemies for 2-4 turns

  • Two new potions: Potion of Bat’s Call and Potion of Bear’s Call. These are the potion versions of the shapeshifting talent stones. We introduce these so if the hero doesn’t have the necessary talent stones, he can still experience the fun of shapeshifting from time to time. Besides, potions don’t need stamina, so these are really useful in combat.
  • New Incident added: An old man needs help. Hero meets an old man who lost his dog. Hero can help him to find the dog with wilderness survival check. On success, hero gains reputation and coins. But there is a chance that the old man is not what he seems and he is actually a ratman.
  • More keyboard shortcuts: Numpad keys for movement. F key for ranged attacks. Numpad keys can be used for menu selections at towns or incidents too. Also updated options menu to include these additions.

CHANGES
  • Intimidation skill perks changed. With the new perks, succesful intimidations againt cultists or bandits give more town reputation.
  • Speechcraft skill perks changed. With every skill perk gained, hero will get discount for sea travel as well as higher quest rewards.
  • Invisibility talent stone effect lowered down and stamina cost increased.
  • Reputation rewards of certain incidents changed. Instead of giving 1 reputation at all towns, some incidents give 1, 2 or more reputation at one town. Helping a lady still gives 1 reputation at all towns.

FIXES
  • Fixed an issue where some talent stone effects were not saving properly.
  • Fixed an issue when sometimes enemies get poisoned although they are immune to poison.
  • Fixed a bug when sometimes golems stop moving on lava tiles.

Development News: A New Overworld Incident and New Talent Stones

Hi Everyone,
This week we worked on several fronts. One of them is introducing more accessibility features wanted for a long time. We added more keyboard shortcuts including numpad movement for all eight directions and “F” key for ranged attack.

Also there are already shortcut keys for the action bar but there was no indication of it on the shortcut list. We corrected that too.

We added several Talent Stones including but not limited to:
  • Bleeding Arrow - As the name suggests, this is a ranged attack that bleeds the enemy.
  • Toxic Arrow - This is a powerful talent stone that deals with multiple enemies. It poisons the enemy and adjacent enemies for 2-4 turns.
  • Circle of Poison - This is a utility talent stone for more defensive tactics. It conjures a circle of poison that has 30% chance to poison adjacent enemies that hit you.

We also added an overworld incident: An Old Man Needs Help… Hero encounters an old man who seems to have lost his dog and asks for help. It requires a wilderness survival skill check to find the dog. But hero may as well discover that this was a trap and the old man is not what he seems to be.
