Behind the Scenes: Animation Tools

Being a smaller studio comes with challenges and perks. One of the challenges is making the most of our efforts wherever we can, but one of the perks is the flexibility it affords us to run with a good idea when it comes along. This latest animation tool our devs have been working on is a great example of both principles in action:

Investing time up front into these tools now will allow for more streamlined cleanup down the road, which means quicker production on future ViRo Dreams, as well as improved interactivity.

One of our favorite features, highlighted in these pics, is the intuitive hand animation. (Look, I'm not saying efficient boob squishes are the cornerstone of society, but like... I'm not saying they aren't.)

Speaking of future dreams, we're excited to be hitting the ground running for more fun with Novellus Dea very soon. Keep an eye out because we'll be sharing updates wherever we can!

Do you have plans to update older dreams in graphics/gameplay?

We are currently making it our focus to give all of the dreams a refresh. Our first dreams will be experiencing complete graphical, storyline, and gameplay reworks. Even our newer ones will be receiving some updates that we know the community will love. This has all been based off of player and community feedback, and we’re excited to show you what we’re up to in an upcoming announcement.

Will you offer DLC bundles?

Yes. We have been looking through all of the reviews for Playspace, and we’ve been creating new pricing structures and bundles based on the feedback that we’ve been receiving. We acknowledge that the freemium model needs to be changed, and we will be doing that in a way that’s fair for existing players as well as newcomers to Playspace.

What are your plans with Vex Ruby stream implementation with Playspace?

One of our biggest passions as a studio is to provide a live VR stream experience, not just for Vex but for all streamers. We are currently working on a brand new Novellus Dea dream experience, and we will be working on VR stream implementation after its release.

Do you have any non-VR plans?

Other than private spaces, all experience in ViRo Playspace can be experienced without a VR headset and is well optimized for devices like the Valve Steam Deck. Part of our dream overhaul we mentioned earlier is to better optimize all of our experiences for non-VR use, though we recommend and encourage all of our Dreams to be played in VR.

Are there plans for character customization?

Currently, we are working on Playspace in phases. We plan to finish touching up and updating our existing Dreams first and foremost. Our studio also has several Dreams in production at the moment as well. Once we are finished improving the current game sense and experience, we will be evaluating the best way to move forward with character customization.

What will it take for the game to be out of early access?

We are working on the roadmap out of early access as we speak, and plan on sharing our steps with the community. We want to make sure to create a game that the community and the studio is proud of. We are creating a rubric of key criteria for the project as a whole. This includes bringing existing dreams up to par, refreshing UX/UI experience, and making networked features like private spaces accessible to everyone.

Are there going to be more dreams from different perspectives?

We have heard the feedback, and we would love to implement a voyeur mode in Playspace to allow you to view the scene from different perspectives

Do you plan to work with more content creators?

Yes! Our goal is to support content creators with the tools needed and provide opportunities for them as well. We have already added to the list of content creators we are crafting new Dreams with, and will be putting out information in the near future as to how to work with us. If you know any content creators who would be interested in working with our products, please invite them to our Discord!

Any more original dreams not from content creators?

Also yes! We have several original Dreams in pre-production right now. We are also proud to announce that we have new in house voice actors and actresses on the team as well to add variety to the current and upcoming experiences.

Any social aspect plans for the game?

We absolutely do have plans for social aspects for Playspace, and we recognize that this feature is one that is highly anticipated by our community. One of the things that is important for us to get right with no exceptions is the privacy of our users. We want our games to be a safe space that adults can explore their sexuality without the worry of privacy. Part of our roadmap for exiting Early Access is to expand our networking features to be available to everyone. Once this is complete, we will be working on bringing the social aspect of Playspace to life.

Do you have plans for content outside of Dreams in Playspace?

Yes. One of our ultimate goals is to make content creation available to anyone who uses the Playspace platform. Think of the Dreams as lewd Pixar-like cinematic experiences. It would be exciting to see experiences created by the community, for the community. Additionally, we’d like to expand on our ASMVR. Any feedback you may have on our ASMVR experiences would be invaluable to us.

Where'd you get inspiration for the lobby area vibes/design?

We wanted a futuristic, fun approach that felt familiar to the adult space. We took a lot of inspiration from adult websites and, believe it or not, Tron!

Will there be the possibility of more freedom within dreams?

Yes, we are currently producing brand new Dreams where the player has more freedom to interact. And, interestingly, we’ve created the blueprints for multiplayer dreams! (ie, one in a swing, and one able to interact/walk at any angle)

Do you have plans to include more diverse sexual niches/kinks?

Sexual exploration and kink experiences are some of the main pillars of our studio. The dreams we are producing right now (and the ones we are revamping) will cover more kinks and sexual preferences. We now have a question for you. What would you as a community like to see more of in our Dream offerings?

What can I do to run the game on lower end systems/are there going to be any graphics options available in the future?

We purposely build ViRo Playspace on computers that are over 10 years old, specifically to accommodate as many systems as possible. Part of that is making sure we maintain the minimum specifications for VR capability. That being said, we are going to be offering more in game options to tailor the experience more to your needs in the future.

What toys are available for use in the game?

We are incredibly excited to announce that we will soon be able to support over 300 toys and devices using qDot’s Intiface application. It’s a slightly different process than we use now to connect to Playspace, but it will allow for more toy support than ever before and you won’t have to wait for us to push an update to have access to more toys.
Questions From The Discord Thread
Remind me what is Viro's end goal?

Our goal is to enable people to explore and discover aspects of sexuality with themselves and others in a safe, non judgemental environment. With the freedom of an avatar, you’re able to challenge what you believed to be normal, experience new or unfamiliar territory, and find yourself in the process. We not only have the means to embody an avatar but also, now with the advances in technology, the sensations of sound/sight/touch that can be taken to whole new levels. Through this, we are able to find new people and ideas that promote sexual positivity.

What are you hoping to have completed within five years?

With our plans in motion, we are striving for total studio sustainability, a bustling community of like minded explorers and creators, the industry standard in creator tools in the intimate space, a vast educational network for creators who are interested in entering this space, and the ability to make lewdtubing available to everyone with a very low bar of entry.

How do you all feel about what progression has been made so far with everything Viro related?

We are extremely optimistic about the trajectory that we are on now. We have a newly expanded team, a more pointed vision now more than ever, and the best tools in the industry. We have accomplished everything we have so far without having to answer to investors who will dictate the future of our studio. We have the means to keep the lights on and work on everything internally, even with our small team. While we acknowledge that our progress has been slow up until this point, we are more ready that we have ever been to skyrocket toward the future we all see for ViRo.

Is there anything as the community that we can do to help you guys move forward or help ease your minds?

There are plenty of things that can be done to help us move forward and ease our minds, and you made the very first step by asking questions for our campfire!
 • Get the word out about our games and apps.
 • Retweet/share our updates on social media and in your other social spaces.
 • Support the Patreon if you are able to contribute monetarily.
 • Invite like minded people to the Discord, even just to be part of the community.
 • Attend our monthly Campfires and ask questions
 • Leave reviews on our pages and apps (positive, we hope!)

Lol when can I start sending gifts to you all and buy things for you all. (Like the throne site or amazon with private address set up). I'm sure I'm not the only one who has some things I want to send you all =p

This is tricky because we have team members all over the US who contribute to what we do. Perhaps we can create a company Throne and you can buy specific people on the team gifts if you choose. What do you think of that idea?

How did the whole team come together? Like was it a fully fledged studio job from the start, or did things start as more individual projects and things grew over time? Is any of the team surprised to find themselves in this specific field now they are here, or has it always felt like that perfect fit?

It’s a bit of both. Like minded individuals, and those minds happened to be in the gutter. Rave decided to go indie after spending about 10 yrs at a triple A game studio. He and CoderDev have been working together ever since. In 2019, we decided to focus on sex positivity content, and we are fortunate to have the absolute best mocap system that can capture intricate body movements and body language. We have a passion to show that sexuality isn’t just raunchy or negative, it can be silly, positive, dorky and funny. As time went along, people joined the team, including an amazing person in marketing who just joined.

I forget you talked about the video work is it going to be something like VRChat and have many locations in it? Anything in these locations going to be interactable with?

We’re starting small in private spaces/rooms, where our primary focus is on sound and touch, and expanding from there.

Can we bring our own avatars somehow?

That is our ultimate goal - to support avatar formats similar to LewdTube Studio.

Is there any plan for a group social area in VR, or is it just going to be private rooms?

We are starting with private rooms to get a firm understanding on what’s needed for larger networking. Maintaining user privacy is our top priority, so we’re starting small with the building blocks and going from there.

Is there any plan for more gay male content?

Yes, this is absolutely something we’re going to do. What gay male content in particular would you like to see?

What has been your trickiest thing to bring to light, and or to create concerning ViRo?

Finding a web designer who understands our very particular need for the NSFW space as well as networking privacy as we discussed earlier in terms of social spaces.

Was there ever a plan to start programs like Lewdtube Studio or did that develop from the love of the studio work?

It came from our utter shock that to become a lewdtuber, you have to go through a cobbled mess of applications including Unity (which was not made with the lewdtuber in mind). So when we developed the Vex Ruby technology and fine tuned it, there was a point where we were like “we should just make this available to everyone”. Much like our plans for social features for adults, LTS is specifically for lewdtubers. We’re not pushing other platforms beyond their TOS, this *IS* for them.
