[p]Familiar Travels? More like.. Freemiliar Public Transportels![/p][p][/p][p]Starting September 1st, Familiar Travels Volume One will be completely FTP![/p][p][/p][p]Halftone Studios, in its infancy of reforming and slowly working on/releasing new, small scale visual novel projects has decided to release the first chapter of Familiar Travels completely free to own, forever.[/p][p][/p][p]At the moment, Halftone Studios is spread to the nine-winds, a few projects having fizzled out and everyone starting and stopping new lives, in this crazy world it's hard to keep things together, so I (rose) am focusing my efforts on creating small projects, with similar writing/storytelling/music as Familiar Travels, there's no real release date on that, but I'll be posting updates on one place,

My Bluesky[/p][p]I don't really post a lot on there, or use social media in general. So.. if you follow me you will not be subjected to too much random posting. The attention from Familiar Travels and subsequent public things was a bit much for my kitty brain so I prefer.. locking myself away in a cabin and writing until something is done, I am not suuuper great at community stuff, but if you ever reach out to me either there, or on discord (void_roses) we can talk![/p][p][/p][p]The other place that will be updated is the HalftoneStudios itch account
Our Itch[/p][p][/p][p]I have no plans on making chapter two free at the moment, but there's tons of stuff in chapter one guys![/p][p]
So yes, Familiar Travels will be going free to play! I hope you enjoy that!

With the artistic stylings of TwoCups, the coding prowess of our own Kalvin Steelhorn and the music of Ben Agaric we are presenting to you an Alpha prototype of the game showcasing the engine, movement, and basic features for free, today! We’re going to be developing this game very publicly, with the help and feedback of the community to make the final version something everybody will love.

Join Familiar Travels protagonist Finley in the day before everything goes to hell. Explore the meticulously designed Po’s Emporium and chat with your favorite characters.

The core gameplay is going to be a roguelike RPG where you explore the mystical magical caverns beneath Vanaheim and beyond as you collect lost items for the various citizens of Vanaheim, supplying them to the shop and upgrading your character through a dynamic and evolving story. With heavy influence from the roguelikes of the day as well as more RPG focused dungeon crawlers like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon we hope to provide a unique take on the genre with a compelling story and an involved dynamic gameplay experience.

MAJOR Familiar Travels content update!

Familiar Travels has received its final major update which provides a new gameplay mode for people who are struggling to obtain the character endings, or don't want to play every character arc to receive the true ending.

Novel Mode!

Novel Mode is not only a novel difficulty for gameplay, but is also in line with the traditional "visual novel" format, hence the name.

Novel Mode features saving, and all the features you would expect, the major difference being the stories play out one after another, linearly, you can access the new novel mode from the main menu.

Some other updates include:
A viewable gallery from the main menu "extras" menu upon completion of the true ending (either in novel mode or regular mode)
Several minor scenes have been added to character's arcs that previously were hidden or very difficult to access.
A whole bunch of bug fixes, music has been added in scenes where it was otherwise quiet, things like that.

I hope you enjoy Novel Mode, and if you found yourself frustrated at not obtaining the character ending you like, give it a shot, it'll allow you to experience the story and get involved with the rest of the community.
