Continuing updates, and a free Demo

We continue to improve back end pieces of HelixVision, and add games to our supported list as they are tested and verified to work smoothly.

Sometimes we will not have a lot to report, but rest assured we continue to improve the software in all aspects. We believe that we have a solution for our driver dilemma, and within the next two months, we expect to be able to leave Early Access for a full release.

In the meantime, for anyone on the fence, please try our free Demo version.

This does not allow you play actual games, but will allow you to see exactly how they look when running in HelixVision on the big screen.

The demo is a short slideshow of screenshots from games we support, chosen to emphasize the stereoscopic wonder of HelixMods. The Katanga Demo app is the same one that ships with HelixVision, including the ability to tune the big screen how you like in terms of size, curvature, distance, and background. If the screen feels like 3D is too strong, push it away from you. If it feels too small and not immersive enough, make it bigger.

At 100M to download, and 5 minutes to view, it's worth your time. For the adventurous, there are bonus shots in a subfolder of StereoPictures with a large bunch of bonus shots that did not make the editorial cut. Please enjoy.

Let's play Black Mesa

One of our incomparable ShaderHackers has just released a new HelixMod for Black Mesa, which fixes the game completely, and it is 3D Vision Ready.

If you wanted to revisit Half Life before Alyx, now is a great time. This remaster in stereoscopic is one of the best gaming experiences you can find. Playing on the giant curved screen with everything life-sized and proper 3D is close to a true VR experience. Highly recommended.

Update to the 0.9.5 version of HelixVision.

Curved screen has arrived!

The top most requested feature on HelixVision.com has finally arrived... the curved screen.

You can now add a curve to the giant screen, and set whatever curve you prefer. It can be completely flat, or curve all the way to 180°. Whatever curve you set will be saved and restored at next launch.

It can be adjusted using the VR controllers dpad, keyboard using Home/End, or game controller dpad.

Plus, every update includes new game support right? How about Nier: Automata, and the free Kingdom Come: Deliverance from Epic Game Store? Or Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Dying LIght, Yakuza Kiwami, and Dead or Alive 6.

One gem not to be missed- Dead Space 2. Everyone should see live size necromorphs in stereo, at least once.

Please enjoy!

Please keep in mind that HelixVision is fundamentally a modding tool, and is dependent upon a lot of other pieces of software like the OS itself, the NVidia 3D Vision Driver. and the games themselves. You can expect games to come and go on this list as new problems crop up because of updates.

If you see problems or a game isn't working for you, please contact us on the forums.

Recent quality of life enhancements

HelixVision now supports a sharpening filter, which dramatically improves the look of the game on the big screen. It's on by default, but you can disable this using left controller.

Or even the keyboard or an Xbox or PS4 controller! That's right, you can now change all the settings in HelixVision using either the keyboard or an attached controller. Off to your left out of your field of view, you'll find the instructions. The only caveat is that the mirror window needs to be frontmost, otherwise the inputs go to the game instead.

Games with unusual aspect ratios are fully supported now, so you can setup a 4:3 view, which can match the VR experience a bit better. If you want ultra-wide screen 21:9, that works now too. Default is still 16:9, but the big screen will resize to match the settings you specify in the game itself.

If you liked or hated the snow, it's now off by default because it takes a small but measurable amount of performance. You can bring it back using the left controller or keyboard or xbox controller by cycling through the environment.

We continue to add game support as we fix and understand problems, and we recently added some great games like Final Fantasy XIV, SOMA, Quern, and updated the launcher for GTA5 after Rockstar changed the launch sequence. We've added support for OpenGL games, and will be adding games like Amnesia, Chronicles of Riddick, and hopefully SW:Knights of the Old Republic after smoothing out their launches.

As always, if you are having problems, please contact us on the forums.
