NETWORK OVERHAUL UPDATE
Attention generals, on behalf of the team, I would like to update you on the latest RISK Q4 2023 roadmap, specifically the networking overhaul and address any concerns you may have.
We want to assure you that we hear your voices and understand the frustrations some of you experience with the current multiplayer experience in RISK.
For context, RISK currently relies on a third party networking solution for multiplayer features which we are in the process of changing. As part of this change we are re-working the game’s entire multiplayer functionality to give us better overall stability, security and performance of all RISK multiplayer games.
It will also allow us to add the ability to play games over extended periods of time (ie play games over days/weeks) which we think will allow people to fit more RISK into their lives as they can chip away at Global Domination in short bursts.
Our backend team (which is separate from the team creating the maps, dice and troops) have been working on this update for over a year and it continues to be a top priority for us, even though it is taking longer than initially anticipated. While we initially aimed to roll out the new networking solution by the end of 2023, we've opted for a more deliberate approach, prioritising stability and design quality.
With our current milestones, we’re aiming to release the networking overhaul early to mid 2024.
Our team will continue to work on critical maintenance tasks and release content based updates (including the most recent 3.13 update) while our development team focuses on the multiplayer overhaul.
