Hello Village Leaders,

Today we have some practical knowledge for you in prep for the big Medieval Dynasty 1.0 release. Last week we explained that save files from the Early Access versions of Medieval Dynasty might have some issues when being loaded into the full 1.0 release version. If you don’t know which direction you should go with, and you want to experiment, we suggest creating a copy of your Medieval Dynasty Early Access save game files. That way your save game files from the Early Access will not be lost or corrupt.

Here is our step-by-step guide on how to create a copy of your Medieval Dynasty Early Access game saves.

1. Press the Windows key plus "r" key,
   
2. Type in the box: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Medieval_Dynasty\Saved\SaveGames,
   
3. Copy your save file/files to a different, safe location.
   

Now that you have your save file/files stored somewhere safe, you can always bring them back to your game by following these steps:

1. Follow the first two steps above to find the folder for the saves and copy your previously saved files into this folder: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Medieval_Dynasty\Saved\SaveGames directory,
   
2. Launch Medieval Dynasty and enjoy your saves.

Hello Village Leaders,

We have some important information regarding Medieval Dynasty 1.0 Full Release and your current save files. Some of you asked us what will happen with the game saves from the Early Access version of the game once Medieval Dynasty enters the 1.0 state. Well, the answer is a bit complicated, so sit back, grab a cup of tea or coffee, and read through all the info that you need to know.

Since we are adding new storylines, fixes, new characters, changes to the map, and more to Medieval Dynasty, your current saves may not function properly from Early Access to the 1.0 version. However, we have three options/workarounds that you might want to take a look at before the full release occurs.

Option 1:

Download the 1.0 Full Release update and enjoy your new medieval experience from the beginning. However, this time around you will be able to take part in a new and extended storyline. On your way to creating a successful dynasty, you will meet new people, get access to all new additions and features that will come along with the 1.0 release, experience exciting twists, and go on new quests. It’s experiencing Medieval Dynasty in all its glory.


Option 2:

This option is for all Village Leaders who don’t want to start from scratch. For all of you who wish to continue your villages as they are, we will create a separate game branch on Steam so that you can enjoy and grow your already built dynasties. You will not lose your saves and you can continue to develop your villages exactly as before. This branch will support Medieval Dynasty version 0.6.0.5. Keep in mind though, if you choose this option, you will miss out on the new content that will be added with the 1.0 Full Release. If this is not a dealbreaker for you, this might be an option for you.

Option 3:

If you don’t want to miss out on your previous work and you want to enjoy new content, this workaround might be for you. You can load your Early Access save file with Medieval Dynasty’s 1.0 version. If you do that, most of the new content should work properly. However, some problems may occur. Due to changes to the map and environment, you may find your village is floating in the air or be stuck in the ground or under water. You may also find problems with quest givers, npcs, and other characters. In rare cases, you might find a bandit’s camp in your village. Keep in mind though that with this workaround, the new storyline and quests will not be available. If this is something you don't mind and you are ok with possible errors and mistakes, then this option is for you.

Please note that you can copy/store saves in a different portion of your hard drive, so they’re safe, just in case something goes awry with the original save game!

We know how much time you invested in this game and how much effort you put into your villages. And we know that these workarounds may not be 100% what you were looking for, but we feel that a new, improved storyline with more quests and characters is worth the effort. We also tested out and tried to find as many solutions for you as well, so we hope that some of these workarounds are an option that you’ll be happy with and let you continue your medieval journey.
