I’ll be honest: I was a little bit conflicted when I first saw Overthrown. I had seen a few little developer clips on TikTok, and it felt a bit like a game that was trying a bit too hard to be quirky or have an air of pretence to them—much like the early clips I saw of Hokko Life that leaned into that “what if Animal Crossing was better” narrative that was polluting the discourse at the time.  This was why I jumped on the opportunity to get a hands-on preview of Overthrown because, deep down, I knew at its core, it had an idea worth exploring. It’s a solid reminder that sometimes, social media can make you a lot more cynical than your profession. While it’s still an early build, I gotta say I really like what Overthrown is doing! For the preview demo, the game plops you into a world with almost no setup or backstory. You’re a young, red-haired woman, and it’s apparently up to you to craft a civilization. We have our first public demo soon! Wow! ヽ(*・ω・)ﾉ Big ol' thanks for being here with us - we're so jazzed to share more details about the game as we start getting closer to both the demo and Early Access! But first lets talk about;

[h2]POWER LIFTING[/h2]

One of the core pieces of Overthrown is the players ability to lift anything in the world! A mechanic we tossed in from the frustrations of putting things a few tiles too high and from friends placing item chests not aligned with the other chests (and having to then destroy stuff and say bye-bye to resources because you have to rebuild them). ( ╯°□°)╯ ┻━━┻

Don't like where your butchery is? Want to change the design of your whole kingdom? Just lift it up and toss it anywhere on the grid at any time! If you want more ease you can toggle a top-down view to power throw it onto the grid from halfway across the map!



[h2]But How Does That Even Work![/h2]

Your crown. It steals souls. Souls make for healthy muscles. Put it on and you can lift up anything you want from boulders to gigantic oak trees to your ol' soup kitchen! ╰( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )つ──☆*:・ﾟ



[h2]Okay, But Lets Make It More Interactable[/h2]

Okay, so lifting makes building easier but what else is it good for? Everything! We really wanted to craft a super playful and interactable lil' game. While your Sawyers can go cut down trees, what if you could just throw your tree into the sawmill to speed up plank production? What if you could... lift up your sawmill and sprint through the forest and have it automatically absorb all the trees while your citizens watch in horror?



Different buildings will be able to absorb their aligning resources! Toss stuff at stuff and see what it it does! Everything also makes a great weapon too (I like annihilating Outlaws by throwing Citizens I hate at them). ┐(︶▽︶)┌
