Ember Knights 1.0 to release on July 18!

You've already read the title, so there's no need to contain our excitement any longer! We are thrilled to announce that Ember Knights is set to release on July 18th!

Early Access is therefore coming to an end next month, and our first thought is to thank all of you. To everyone who ever played, wrote a review, dropped us a line on Discord or gave us a like on Twitter, thank you! Your valuable feedback and unwavering support have been instrumental in shaping the game into what it is today. We achieved 2000 reviews on Steam, and an Overwhelmingly Positive rating too! We're now really looking forward to the next phase. So brace yourselves because 1.0 comes with the final area, new monsters, another weapon, boss variants, the final boss (you know who it is!) and of course, more end game content.

If you're a newcomer, welcome! Are you ready to be transported to a vibrant, immersive yet deadly pixel-art world? Prepare to wander through enchanted forests, frozen lands, haunted villages, and more! Each session will present you with unique build opportunities and elements to unlock, from fun weapons to game-changing relics and additional Knight colors... And more!

Reconnects Update - The Final Stretch

Hello Knights!

This is it - our last scheduled update before 1.0 drops!

While we're hard at work getting the remaining content in for 1.0, we've included the following for 0.12: multiplayer reconnect support, the ability to swap items via an overhauled Offering Pit, balancing to some weapon mods, more boss rewards, a new secret/achievement, and various quality of life improvements to the Ember Tree, Compendium, and shops.


Offering Pit Rework - Swapping Items


The Offering Pit gets a functionality change in this update. Previously players would offer gold to get a reward. Now, you can offer up to 4 items from your inventory to Bob and he will spit out 4 new items of equal type. Got a relic or two that doesn't fit your build? Give them to Bob to try for something new!

The Offering Pit wasn't really working how we wanted it to. Instead of being an interesting choice where you choose how much gold you want to wager against a reward, it ended up bing more like an inferior shop. This update should make the Offering Pit a more desirable room encounter. Swapping items is a feature that we've had requested a few times and we listened!



Multiplayer Reconnects


This has been a massive undertaking for us but it's a feature we wanted to bring to you before the final release. There are so many scenarios to test this feature thoroughly so you may encounter some issues along the way. If you do experience any problems, we would greatly appreciate letting us know so we can address them!

Weapon Mod - Leap


After taking some time to look at the Leap mod for the Rift Hammer, we came to the conclusion that it was too spammable while still maintaining I-frames. We wanted to address this but also didn't want to take away the ability to use it multiple times in a row nor reduce the I-frames given. Our solution was to introduce the concept of "Leap charges".

Leap can only be activated when you have a Leap charge available. You gain Leap charges by hitting enemies with the 3rd Attack in the normal attack chain. Up to 3 Leap charges can be stored. These are displayed beneath your Knight.

It's our hope that this change will encourage a more fluid transition between normal attacks and Leap attacks and promote a healthier playstyle that is more enjoyable for everyone.

  • Leap - Introduced the concept of Leap charges. Collect charges by using the 3rd attack and spend charges to perform the Leap. Also reduced the minimum distance but increased the damage
  • Connoisseur - Changed to give one skill selector each time the player beats a miniboss

[h3]Ember Tree Updates[/h3]
  • Separated the Skill Selector reroll and Relic Selector reroll so players can have both 🔥
  • Removed the bonus damage to elites and champs, and replaced the bonus damage to normal enemies with bonus damage to non-boss enemies to also include elites and champs
  • Removed the Stat Selector reroll
  • Various UI improvements

[h3]Shop Changes[/h3]
  • Added a chance for Ash to appear in all shops 🔥
  • Added more levels to the rerolling 🔥
  • Added progression to the podiums - additional podiums become available as you progress through different worlds
  • Adjusted the cap price of all items
  • Streamlined the Nexus Shop unlock sequence

[h3]Compendium[/h3]
  • Toggle through variants behind their base version
  • Various UI improvements

[h3]Boss Rewards[/h3]
Increased the rewards given for beating a boss!

[h3]New Secret/Achievement[/h3]
With the change to the Offering Pit, we had to replace Core Finances. Keep an eye out for a way to defy the mystifying laws of gravity in the Nexus!

More translations and fixes! 🔥


Balancing


In addition to the new content and features, we’ve also made the following changes:
  • Added an end-game conversion of gold to ember for any remaining gold left at the end of a run🔥
  • Added the concept of rarities to Relic Orbs. Visuals will now represent the rarity of the relic behind the Orb
  • Adjusted Mimics - added scaling HP and attack power, and decreased base HP
  • Gave the Mimic King a voice
  • Reduced the default volume to 50% 🔥
  • Replaced the door mat icon for minibosses
  • Replaced the intro logos for Doom Turtle and Twin Sails with their animated versions


Bugs


And finally, some bug fixing:
  • Fixed a bug that was causing Evee's Care Package reward to occasionally spawn out of reach 🔥
  • Fixed a bug that was resetting the difficulty modifiers between runs 🔥
  • Fixed some visual issues with Anville's miniboss attacks
  • Fixed a visual issue with the Cleaver's supercharge attack animation 🔥
  • Fixed a bug that was causing the prompt to advance NPC dialogue to disappear

Nexus News - 1 Year Anniversary!

Greetings, Knights!

We've just passed 1 year in Early Access and we wanted to take a moment to recap what we've accomplished as well as share a little bit about what we're working on to get ready for 1.0!



Taking all the feedback we received from our Combat Demo, we launched with the following stats and over the course of the year, added the following:

We had very modest expectations when we launched but were quickly overwhelmed with the amount of support we received. Thanks to all of you, we hit the incredible milestone of reaching an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam and grew our Discord community to over 4000 amazing members! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support and trust in us to work hard to bring you the best version of Ember Knights we can!





So, now what?

We have one more update before the full version launches.
0.12 is dropping at the end of May and we're planning to include the following:
  • Reconnect support for disconnected players. This has been a massive undertaking but we feel pretty good about this being ready for 0.12
  • The ability to swap items via an overhauled Offering Pit
  • Improvements to the Ember Tree, Compendium and other systems
  • Additional boss rewards
  • And more!
As usual, player feedback has been an integral part of the development process and we're happy to implement a lot of player-requested features, especially the mechanic to swap items! Bob will be your new best friend!



After that, we're in the final stretch to 1.0, coming this summer. It's been extremely busy with making sure everything is ready and without spoiling too much, you can expect the following:
  • The fifth and final area of the story
  • The Praxis fight
  • A new weapon
  • A completely overhauled difficulty modifier system
  • Boss variants
  • And a few more surprises that we still have up our sleeves!

Doom Turtle

Hotfix Update v0.11.1

Hello Knights!

We've found a few bugs with the previous update and have addressed them with this hotfix update!

Fixes
  • Fixed an issue that was preventing Ash from being used to purchase weapon mods 🔥
  • Fixed an issue that was causing players to get stuck on the weapon podiums 🔥
  • Fixed a bug that was causing skills to be used automatically if charging immediately after using the Rift Hammer’s Leap mod 🔥
  • Fixed some visual issues with the player’s flame effects 🔥
  • Fixed a multiplayer issue where black dialogue bars would remain when clients are disconnected during dialog sequences
  • Fixed a multiplayer issue where clients wouldn’t receive damage from Plague Bringer’s poison pool
  • A bunch of localization fixes 🔥

April Update - Matchmaking and Localizations

Hello Knights!

We're getting closer and closer to 1.0 but before that drops, we have a couple more updates for you!

For 0.11, we've improved the matchmaking for multiplayer games, added a bunch of new languages, balanced the relics system, buffed some skills, adjusted the weapon unlocks, and fixed some pesky bugs.


Discord Rich Presence


Something we've wanted to improve on was the ability for players to quickly find teammates when looking for multiplayer games and we felt like implementing Discord's Rich Presence was a useful addition.

To complement Rich Presence, we've also created special channels and roles available to members of our official Discord server.

Localizations


You've asked and we've listened! Ember Knights is now available in the following languages: Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, and Spanish!



Please note: while these languages are now available, they are currently a work-in-progress and you may encounter issues or incomplete translations. If you see any problems and would like to help us improve the quality of the localization, please let us know via our dedicated localization channel in our official Discord server located here!

  • Removed the kill criteria for Elite enemies to appear. They'll now appear from the beginning of the game 🔥
  • Increased the damage multiplier on Phantom's stake projectile
  • Adjusted the volume and frequency of the SFX for the Red Dwarf relic 🔥


Bugs


And finally, some fixed bugs:
  • Fixed a bug with enemy damage numbers that was causing extraordinarily large damage numbers to appear on the summary screen 🔥
  • Fixed a bug with homing projectiles where they weren’t tracking the target properly if directly behind the source 🔥
  • Fixed a bug that was preventing secret rooms from showing in certain map layouts and multiplayer games 🔥
  • Fixed a bug where players could teleport out of Skrixxa Za’s room with the Razor Wind 🔥
  • Fixed a visual bug with Skrixxa Za when all players have died
  • Fixed a few multiplayer issues that were affecting revives and shop rerolls
  • Fixed a few bugs when using the Nexal Staff’s Clairvoyance mod and Hailstone Armor 🔥
  • Fixed an issue where the black bars from the shop cutscenes could persist 🔥
