What's Next?

Hi everyone! I thought I’d take a bit of time this week to preview some upcoming stuff! I know it’s been a bit of time between juicy content patches, I really do appologise. It feels like everything is getting in the way at the moment! However, I managed to squeak out some time this week to get a jump on some cool stuff - and hopefully will be in a position to publish next weekend, artwork pending!

So obviously the 4th class is what everyone is waiting for. Whilst setup for that continues, I really want to make sure the core loop of the game is as solid as it can be. There's a few things I really want to add still before it feels “complete”. The first is more encounters, and the second is more events. Let's talk about that second one for a bit.

[h3]The Essence Sink[/h3]
So the first thing I want to talk about is Essence. Whilst Souls have a place on Floor 3, and not spending them all doesn’t feel quite as bad, it can be common to get to the end of the run with 2,000+ Essence burning a hole in your pocket. This idea started as a way to enable players to spend a little of that, and not quite feel so bad if they weren't able to path Merchant on the previous Floor.

Enter, the Well of Stars.

The Well of Stars is a screen that will appear each time you descend (so at the end of Floor 1 and again at the end of Floor 2). It will contain 2 rows of choices. The first row will be 3 free choices, of which you can pick one. If they look a lot like the current 3 pick rewards shown at the end of the floor, that's because they are exactly that. They’re just getting moved.

The second row however will be a bucketed random selection of options, each with an Essence cost attached. A full range of things are planned, from Void Stones, Upgrade Points, unique cards and even Void card removal. I’m excited to get this out and into the player's hands. Whilst not a huge change, it will allow a bit more of a feel good for players and their hard earned Essence, and add another interesting decision point along the way.

[h3]Blood Library[/h3]
Another new event planned, this one will spawn on either floor, with an opportunity for players to purchase Rare and Uncommon cards with a ... lesser traded resource. Your max HP. There are also some unique Artifacts planned if you decide to go all in on a life removing shopping spree...

[h3]The Lost and Found[/h3]
An excellent suggestion from a long time player in the Discord, TheDeviantCrafter. Ever found yourself in an Elite fight and thought - can’t I have all of these? Or found a Treasure Chest and thought the same thing? Well, the Lost and Found will be a 2nd Floor event that has all the Elite Artifacts and Cards you’ve turned down on your run so far, all available to purchase! Such a great idea, and big thanks to TheDeviantCrafter in the Discord for the suggestion!



[h3]Translations [/h3]
On top of all this, I’ve been working behind the scenes at continuing to set up for translations. I’ve had some unbelievable help from the community, with a team already assembled to handle Russian, Chinese, Spanish and French! Just waiting on some custom tools to be set up to help make the process smoother on the translators, but it’s definitely on the way! More on that soon :)



That about wraps it up for this week - not too much more I can share just yet. As always, thank you so very much for all the reviews, we’re nearing 300 and still rocking a 96% overall. That thought of a potential Overwhelmingly Positive review score once we hit 500 is mind blowing, and I couldn't be more thankful! I appreciate everyone who has shared VotV with their friends and family, it really helps the game grow, and I can’t thank you enough!

Update #26: Hotfix Update

Hi everyone - hope you’ve had a great week! Just a small hotfix patch today, a couple of little things reported on the Discord.

  • Fixed a bug with Thinning Out letting you multi-pick cards
  • Fixed Soul Kiss giving the wrong amount of Rage
  • Fixed some text on the Legend screen in regards to the Soul Collector
  • Tweaked the Voids fight tips
  • Fixed an issue where playing certain cards would give you “hidden” Soultithe
  • Stopped Pale Butterfly constantly glowing.

Update #25: This weeks updates!

Hi everyone! As promised last week, no major patch this weekend, due to me managing to sneak away for a small 2 day vacation. I’m currently sitting and watching the sun rise over the mountains here, a somewhat chilly 2 degrees (my fingers hurt).

Despite this, I'm having a very relaxing time, the coffee is hot - and I’ve made some lovely friends here who, if you ask me, are probably just in it for the bird seed...



Anyway, I’ll be back in town as of tomorrow and will continue pushing things forward. However, you all may have noticed a bunch of little patches going out all last week. I wanted to swing in with an update on all the bugs that got squashed, and tweaks that were made. Thank you again to everyone for keeping these bug reports going! So very much appreciated!!

Also, I just noticed we hit 96% positive on Steam! UNREAL - a massive thank you!!! Also, a huge milestone was hit last week, with 100,000 unique runs being completed since launch. This blows my mind, and is so cool to see! I actually would love to commemorate this moment with another community card back - will add more to that hopefully later this week! What ideas should go into this one? 100,000 unique runs is a lot of dead monsters, and probably a lot of blood to clean up...

Updates/Bug Fixes
- Replaced ~20 holding card artwork with finished versions
- Fixed a wild bug which was causing a crash when a player would kill an enemy passively (though discard/sift effects). Usually with cards like Malice or Backpedal + an Artifact.
- Fixed up wording on different Artifacts/Cards to match the games wording elsewhere
- Fixed a bug where Infecti’s Infection cards were getting discarded as they hit your discard
- Fixed Aegis of Ifram’s wording/count

Update #24: Stop - Artifact time!

Hey folks! Sorry about the radio silence the last week and a half or so. Still trying to find that balance between my day job, Vault of the Void work and also family. It's getting harder and harder right now as I have to fit in more work commitments. But still - I’ve managed to finally push out the Artifact patch - this has a massive 30+ new Artifacts across all classes, mostly focused around Elite tier Artifacts (Cursed Items, Elite Fight drops etc).

Whilst these have been on the Beta Branch for the last 48 hours, please let me know any bugs that show up! I’ll be on board to fix and patch as quickly as possible over the next 24 hours.

With that, there are some really, really fun ones here... let's look at a couple of my favourites real quickly!

[h3]The Hidden[/h3]
Forgotten Fuse
At the end of every 4th turn, deal damage to all enemies equal to the number of cards in your Expel pile.

Combo Platter
Each turn, the first time you spend Combo, Draw 1.


[h3]The Enlightened[/h3]
Topaz Tiger
When you enter Zen, Block 4. If you have no Threat, Rage 25%.

Bell of Clarity
If you have less than 3 attacks at the start of your turn, add a Volatile Stability to hand. If you have less than 3 abilities at the start of your turn, add a Volatile Clarity to hand.


[h3]Daughter of the Void[/h3]
Cracked Sundial
At the start of each turn, if you have less than 40 Corruption, apply Weak 1 to all enemies.

Everlasting Sapphire
At the start of each turn, Draw & Discard 1.

There's also a number of bug fixes and improvements. Again, I’ve definitely missed a few in the note taking process, but hopefully I logged all the major ones below!

- 34 Artifacts added!
- More card animations
- Changed Bottle of Whiskey to read: At the start of your turn, draw 1 extra card.
- Changed Draw Potion to: At the start of your turn, draw an extra X cards.
- Accumulation changed to: Draw a card. Draw an extra card at the start of your next turn.
- Sifting multiple cards won't reload the Sift viewer!
- Added a counter to the Starcaller fight for their cards played/immune ability.

- Dazes and Infections are now all Volatile, and have had the Destroy tag removed.

Update #23: Minor Update

Hey everyone! Sliding in with a midweek patch here. There’s been a bit going on, and the Artifact patch is still in the works (they’re all designed, just in the middle of implementation). However there's been a lot of discussion over at the Discord, and I’ve decided to do a bunch of reworking of a few elements to help in a few areas.

I won’t drown on too much - I’ll list as much as I remember documenting down below! As always, thank you everyone for the bug reports!

- Screen Flash accessibility! Firstly, my apologies for not including this from the start! Those who prefer to have Screen Flash disabled, it's now possible from the Options menu!
- Cards which are Swift and will benefit from Combo will now glow orange in your hand.
- You can now use Right Mouse to cancel a card play whilst holding it.
- Random Class button! Let the game make the decision for you :)
- Combat Log update! Now with colours, and it's scrollable! (Only with the mousewheel right now)
- Tweaks to the card glow effect on cards that require it.
- Changed the way counters on Artifacts work - so they will now include the last card played.
