Travellers Rest Tribune 2

Greetings, Tavernkeeps!

This week, we have a first glimpse into a few of the things planned after we launch into Early Access on the 28th, as well as a look at how our early testing will roll out. We’ll have a more in-depth roadmap to share as we go, but these are just a few of things we’re going to be working on:

*Wine cellar to age drinks
*Seasons with seasonal events and weather
*Local village
*Regular customers (story characters)
*Expansion of existing systems
*More recipes, farming, things to buy for the tavern
*More random events (like bar fights)
*Tavern expansion - new rooms, a second bar, larger tavern
*Unlock new mechanics with reputation

And much more! As you can see, the game will be growing by leaps and bounds, and the more successful it is, the more features and content we’ll be able to add. We don’t want to spoil too much yet, so we’ve held back some very fun features from this list. You’ll get to see more of them once we reveal the full roadmap. Early Access means that nothing is set in stone, so as we hear from the community, we’ll be adding or eliminating features based on your input.

Community is a critical part of this journey, and as we expand Travellers Rest, we’ll be listening to your ideas and feedback, and shaping the game along with you. We’ve heard so many great ideas and suggestions on Discord already, and we hope to see more of you join us and share your thoughts!

The team is also very excited to start internal testing with a group of you from the community in the coming days leading up to Early Access launch. We’ll be reaching out to our lucky few starting next week, and then broadening the testing pool as we move through and fix bugs from the closed testing round. If you want to throw your name into the hat for testing, stop by on Discord let us know. We can’t guarantee everyone a spot, especially if we get too many applicants, but it will help us gauge interest, and scale up testing before and during the Early Access period.

That’s all for now, but stay tuned for the next Travellers Rest Tribune!

Let's Talk About Tavern Talk!

Greetings, Tavern Keeps!

Have you ever wanted to make your mark on a game you love? Now is your chance! Starting today, we’re opening up our Tavern Talk event to gather your awesome ideas for text lines for tavern customers. Help us brainstorm lines across an array of scenarios, such as a customer arriving, a customer finding your tavern too cold or too hot, your tavern enjoying a great reputation, and many more. You can contribute your lines between now and the Early Access launch of the game, and we’ll be adding plenty of these suggestions to keep interaction with the customers fresh and interesting.

Adding your lines will have a couple of basic guidelines. We’re asking that each person only submit 3-5 lines so that we can add content by as many participants as possible. Lines should of course be safe for work, and not include any type of hate speech, discrimination, etc.

To participate, come and join us on Discord and post your lines in our Tavern Talk channel. You’ll be able to find all of the categories we need, and the guidelines, in the pins for the channel.

Travellers Rest Tribune 1

Greetings, Tavernkeeps!

The team is working hard to prepare for Early Access, and that means so much going on behind the scenes! We’ve shared a little glimpse this week on our social media of the ongoing sound work in action, as well as the translation of the game into several other languages. In addition, we decided to make the demo available again to play leading up to our Early Access launch, so please be sure to take advantage of that and check out the game. If you like what you see, please be sure to wishlist and follow the game, so that you receive our future updates and can hear more about what we’ve got in store.

One of the things we want for the game is the ability to customize your tavern, and expand it to meet your customers’ growing needs. After an evening spent in good company in your tavern, your patrons will also be able to request a room for the night. They will make you an offer, but it’s up to you to decide if they’re giving you a fair price, or if you want to send them away.

Each new room will be unlocked with money, and you’ll be able to customize and decorate the rooms any way you like. Give your tavern your own personal touch, and your customers will love staying with you! The customer will give you reputation and money based on how much they enjoyed, or didn’t enjoy, their stay, so be sure to make your rooms appealing. After they leave, you’ll need to tidy the room for the next person, no one likes a dirty room!

They will offer a certain amount of money. You can choose to reject / accept that amount. If you reject them they may offer another price or leave. So, it'd be your job to judge if you'll get a better offer before you close up the tavern for the evening. You'll unlock each new room with money, and be able to fully decorate it. The room will have a minimum requirement of furniture (bed, table, light, etc) and will also have a comfort rating. When a customer has finished their stay you'll get money and reputation based on how nice their room is. Then you'll also have to clean the room, make the bed etc.

We look forward to sharing more news and updates as we lead up to Early Access and beyond, and please be sure to stop by our Discord and chat!

I thought I'd also use this announcement share some history of myself and the game. I started working on Travellers Rest about a year ago now. It started with just me, working on the game part-time while private tutoring. Previously, I worked as a software engineer but decided to leave my desk job in pursuit of becoming a game developer. Early in development, I was discovered by Metaboli Publishing through a Reddit post. We reached a publishing agreement and I could begin my dream job as a full time indie game developer! Now, I work with several people at Metaboli and a Music/SFX composer on the game. Currently, I’m the project’s solo developer and artist working towards an early access release and beyond!

The original inspiration for the game was to combine Stardew Valley and Shoppe Keep into a tavern management game. After some looking around I found Orcish Inn, a game where you play an orc innkeeper, making various brews for local tribes. However, upon discovering the game was sadly no longer in development I decided to go ahead and start working on Travellers Rest!

Metaboli and I hope you enjoy the free demo and will check us out on early-access release. Thanks!
