v1.58 Patch Notes - Various Mastery Buffs!

Hi folks,

We just deployed an update for DemonCrawl that includes buffs to 6 lesser-used masteries, a new stage mod, 3 community-designed inventories and more!

There is also a larger patch in the works for a major seasonal event - can you guess which one? 🤔

  • New stage mod: Fraudulent - "When you enter this stage, replace all stage mods with more difficult stage mods."
  • All Mythic Emblems now enforce specific sets of stage mods
  • Mythic Emblem bosses are now guaranteed rather than likely
  • Updated default leaderboard version to v1.58
  • Added 5 new Patreon avatars and a new Patreon inventory
  • Added "Gilded Mahogany" inventory designed by community member Cynic
  • Added "Calculator" inventory designed by community member Celestial
  • Added "The Minimalist" inventory designed by community member Samario


[h2]Quality of Life[/h2]

  • Added "connecting to server" message when loading Hero Trial
  • Added dictionary entry for "stats"
  • Improved dictionary entry for "chain"
  • Rewrote the descriptions of Essence items for clarity
  • The Surrounded stage mod will flag all cells around the perimeter for you
  • Armor tooltips now indicate which category the armor belongs to


[h2]Balance Changes[/h2]

  • Commander I buff: Familiar summoning cost reduced from 5 to 3 coins
  • Survivor II rework: "Whenever you earn the Untouchable award, gain 1 max life."
  • Survivor III buff: "Solve a number of cells equal to your missing life, then heal to full."
  • Bubbler II buff: "Whenever you pop a bubble, reveal a number of random nearby cells equal to the value of the cell it was popped in."
  • Scholar II buff: "Whenever a status effect is completed, restore 1 life and solve a cell."
  • Guardian III buff: charges reduced from 5 to 4
  • Prophet III buff: "Gain between 1 and 5 Tokens."
  • Guild Bond price increased from 5 to 9
  • Magic Dice price increased from 20 to 24
  • Nemes price reduced from 25 to 17
  • Bonfire price reduced from 23 to 18
  • Elemental stage mod is now considered difficulty 3 instead of 2
  • Unchained stage mod is now considered difficulty 3 instead of 2
  • Demon Snare now counts as meat for the purposes of Barbecue


[h2]Bug Fixes[/h2]

  • Fixed a typo on Essence of Death
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent bosses from spawning
  • Fixed an issue related to Chamberlain Hero Trial not saving its effect to the disk
  • Fixed Blood Oil not writing its effect to the disk
  • Fixed an issue related to Druid Staff and the new excess item rules
  • Fixed unintended interaction between Wizard II and Bubble Rod
  • Fixed buggy interaction between Burning and Surrounded stage mods
  • Fixed another crash related to items trying to drop on a fully occupied board


Hotfix #1 @ 6:33 PM EST - Fixed Druid Staff and possibly fixed a crash related to the new Fraudulent mod.

DemonCrawl Is Now Available on macOS! (Token Gift Inside)

We are very happy to announce that the Mac build of DemonCrawl has entered the stable branch as of v1.57!

This marks the completion of our second DemonCrawl port for 2020. We hope to follow it up with one more before year's end - we'll have more news on that front soon.

We are still working to determine minimum system requirements for Mac, but we can confirm that the game client runs great even on lower-end devices. For reference, the port was completed on a 2018 model Mac Mini i3, which pushes well over 60 FPS in normal gameplay situations.

In other news, we have recently begun development of DemonCrawl's next major Seasonal Event! It's going to be huge - we're thinking of it like a mini-expansion. Bigger than your average update, but smaller than Sweeping Heights. We won't give away too many details just yet, but let's just say it's going to be equal parts scary and sweet.

Finally, we have an update planned to go live later this week. It includes several important mastery changes that should shake up the meta, along with a new stage mod and your usual helping of bug fixes.

And no, don't worry, we're not nerfing Spy again.

Not yet, anyway.

v1.57 Patch Notes - Mac Launch & New Items!

Hi folks,

We have a big DemonCrawl update for you today. :-)

First off, our Mac build has entered the stable branch! We're happy to say that the porting process was relatively painless, and that we should be able to utilize the same Apple dev tools to begin building for iOS soon.

As for the patch itself, v1.57 introduces 5 powerful new items and a new stage mod. The mod is quite unique and will almost certainly make an impact on any stage that has it... we hope it poses an interesting challenge!



Additionally, we created a new type of Nomad that will trade one of your items for another item. He's like a Bazaar, but in Nomad form. There are a few other mechanic changes you can read about in the patch notes below.

Finally, we added 3 community-made cosmetics, the first of their kind. A big thank you to Cubear and Celestial for these awesome contributions!

We hope to add more community cosmetics in the near future. If you would like to submit your own work for consideration, please do so at DemonCrawl's official Discord server. We can't wait to see what you come up with. :-)

  • Any excess items gained during a stage will drop on the ground, not just items from chests
  • Electric aura now affects Blacksmiths
  • The cell open requirements for Obelisks have been lowered from [20 to 30] to [15 to 30]
  • Gambler loses coins a bit less often
  • Gambler has a very small chance to randomly win a ton of coins
  • Reduced Token Shop price of Archmage Sceptre from 500 to 400 Tokens
