v1.11 Patch Notes

New Features
  • New Mystic Statue: "Remove a total of x stage mods from unfinished stages."
  • New Mystic Statue: "Unseal all of your inventory slots."
  • Added keybind option for opening cells

Balance Changes
  • Hungry Plant rewards now scale with stage power
  • After earning a reward from a Hungry Plant, its feeding requirement is doubled
  • Extra Pocket: "You may find duplicate items. They are more likely to appear than other items." -> "You may find duplicate items. When you enter a stage, reduce the minimum power by your highest number of duplicates."
  • Rasp: "Statue stages are less difficult than their normal stage counterpart." -> "Statue stages no longer increase difficulty."
  • Vampiric Blade: 40 Coins -> 33 Coins
  • Pan Flute: 23 Coins -> 32 Coins
  • Shop Key: 50 Mana -> 100 Mana
  • Chaos Portal: 300 Mana -> 400 Mana


Developer notes: Although Hungry Plant rewards are no longer flat, they are still considered a secondary benefit (the Plant's main purpose is to remove items you don't need.)

Bug Fixes
  • Experimental fix for Steam Cloud Sync not retrieving data
  • Fixed buggy behavior between Dimensional Portal and revives
  • Improved compatibility with various button names for keybinding fields
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when the "check_win" script ran outside of a stage
  • Fixed Mystic Statue not writing uncompleted item shops to the save file
  • Fixed another Time Capsule crash
  • Sound can no longer become super loud if the same audio file is queued many times within a step
  • Fixed "Invert Keyboard Panning" and several other options not persisting
  • Fixed a bug with Warning Sign that could cause monsters to move into the same cell as the new sign
  • Items can no longer enlarge stages beyond 30x30 in order to prevent memory overloads

v1.10 Patch Notes

We went 3 entire days without a patch. Let's fix that. :)

New Features
  • Added scrollbar in the Gameplay Options screen so we don't have to worry about screen estate
  • Added "Zoom Step" setting that lets you choose how much bigger or smaller the board becomes whenever you scroll
  • Added "Fast Sweep" control option that allows you to open any cell on left-click release, even if you initially clicked on a different cell (disabled by default)
  • Added "Toast Lifespan" setting that lets you choose how long alerts stay on the screen
  • Added animation for Drill item


Balance Changes
  • KNIGHT I: "Begin the quest with 2 defense." -> "Begin the quest with 1 defense."
  • SPY I: "Glean 10 hidden cells at the start of each stage." -> "Glean a number of hidden cells equal to the stage's max power."
  • IMMORTAL III: Requires 7 charges -> Requires 6 charges


Developer notes: Knight and Spy have proven to be a bit stronger than anticipated. We are going to monitor today's changes closely to make sure both masteries remain viable. In particular, we want Knight to remain a good option for new players who aren't familiar with all of the other crazy mechanics in DemonCrawl.


Bug Fixes
  • Fixed several effects that could lead to inaccurate gleaned values
  • Fixed an issue with Yesterking's uncomplete effect not always saving to the disk
  • Fixed a bug where Time Capsule could consume 2 items instead of 1
  • Fixed Poltergeist not properly adding Cankers to the save file
  • The Brooding stage mod can no longer spawn monsters into Frozen or Burning cells
  • Can no longer cheat death with Wand of Retribution
  • Fixed a typo in the Crafter III tooltip
  • Fixed "end of quest" items not activating at the end of Shadowman (e.g. blueprints, tablets)
  • Speculative fix to prevent softlocks when re-entering a quest that is already complete
  • Speculative fix for absent "guaranteed" objects that tried to spawn on an occupied cell
  • Speculative fix for inbox crash related to high network delay


There are a few other outstanding bugs we are working to address. So if you don't see your reported issue in today's patch notes, worry not - we'll get to it as soon as we can.

Small Hotfix for v1.09

Hi folks,

We just released a small hotfix for v1.09 - orbs will now be properly destroyed after using the ESC button, and you can now use the F2 key to restart Classic during the XP popup sequence. Version number is unchanged.

  • You can now press ESC to exit a stage
  • In Classic Mode, you can now press F2 to restart the stage
  • DemonCrawl will now remember the last quest you played


Balance Changes
  • Decreased omen drop rate in chests from 13% to 11%
  • Increased the price of Mjolnir from 25 to 40
  • Decreased the upper limit of "sell" prices in the Bazaar


Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a softlock that could occur as a result of Flares colliding with Frozen, unflagged monsters
  • Fixed omens bypassing immunity when adding status effects at the start of a stage
  • Fixed Magic Hammer only fortifying the leftmost armor instead of all
  • Fixed bosses being able to destroy certain immutable objects
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when an artifact tried to spawn in a chest on the Metagate stage
  • Fixed a regression related to Druid Staff
  • Fixed a rare crash that occurred when opening the Beyond Mode prizebox
  • Fixed a crash that could occur by eating Wanted Poster with a Nightmare Gut
  • Fixed a crash related to stackable status effects (e.g. Rotting Head)
  • Android only: speculative fix for allowing the game to proceed if you decline a connection with Google Play
