Total War: WARHAMMER III News

Total War: Warhammer 3 roadmap will lead the way this Friday

Developer Creative Assembly confirms that the Total War: Warhammer III roadmap for its DLC releases in 2022 will land this week - which will hopefully confirm a release window for the RTS game's next expansion, and maybe the Warhammer III Mortal Empires release date too.

The latest Total War is one of the best Warhammer games on PC, but despite Ogre Kingdoms releasing in February we really have no firm idea what further Total War: Warhammer III DLC expansions are coming to the strategy game this year - barring the release of the promised Mortal Empires combined map that unites all three Warhammer games into one epic campaign.

We won't have long to wait, as Creative Assembly has just announced that the Total War: Warhammer III 2022 roadmap will hit this week on Friday, April 29. It's still a little vague how much exactly the developer will share - whether the roadmap will just confirm update plans or DLC releases, especially Mortal Empires, is up in the air.

Total War NFTs? Creative Assembly aware of "concerns"

Its possible fans of SEGA's RTS game series don't want to hear about Total War NFTs, but they could be on the cards. With Total War: Warhammer III now out, developer Creative Assembly says it is aware of "differences of opinion and concerns" - but it has to follow any SEGA NFT plans.

NFTs remain a sore point in gaming. While publishers like Ubisoft and Konami support them despite opposition, Team17 cancelled its NFT plans shortly after announcing them, and others just call them a scam. SEGA hasn't announced any specific plans but recently suggested that its new games could use them and registered "SEGA NFT" earlier this year.

Creative Assembly is owned by SEGA, and in a new interview with 3DJuegos (via Google Translate), Total War: Warhammer 3 campaign designer Mark Sinclair acknowledges that the publisher has said a few things about NFTs and states that ultimately, "what [SEGA] says gets done". However, Creative Assembly is looking into "the issue of the environmental impact they have" and "understands everyone's differences of opinion and concerns" about NFTs.

Total War: Warhammer 3 mods are filling the Workshop fast

It took a little while, but Steam Workshop support for Total War: Warhammer III has finally arrived alongside patch 1.1. While that update made internal improvements to the game, like readjusting the Realm of Chaos campaign to be a little less punishing, many players have been excitedly waiting for the Workshop, which is already full of mods that have become essential over the course of the Total Warhammer series.

The Better Camera Mod from Total War: Warhammer and Warhammer II is already available for Warhammer III. Created by modder kam2150, the Better Camera Mod allows the camera to get closer and fly higher during battles. It's terrific for taking screenshots, sure, but it's also a huge help during large-scale battles when it can be difficult to see everything happening at once. You can press K to turn off the UI, or alt+K for a cinematic view. Pressing N lets you zoom into the action without units disappearing when they get too close to the camera.

The 'vanilla campaign' mod by Drunk Flamingo that we highlighted last month is now available in Steam Workshop click-to-install form. This one's simple: it disables Chaos Rifts from spawning, which means the campaign's narrative elements never trigger, and you're free to play a more traditional 'sandbox' Total War campaign in Total War: Warhammer III.

Total War: Warhammer 3 patch 1.1 updates the Realm of Chaos

Total War: Warhammer III's big 1.1.0 update has arrived, along with a beefy list of patch notes. The update touches just about every aspect of the strategy game, and adds some new features and options that will make the campaign more interesting and, hopefully, a bit less frustrating at key points.

For most players, the most broadly impactful changes in this update are the ones made to the Realm of Chaos campaign. As promised, the effects of the negative traits gained by entering the Chaos Realms has been roughly halved across the board, and Daemon legendary lords won't experience any negative trait effects whatsoever while traveling through their patron god's realm. All negative traits associated with a realm are now removed as soon as your lord has completed the survival battle there.

The race to collect souls works a bit differently now, too. When you intercept an AI lord at the Forge of Souls, they'll lose all the souls they've collected so far, rather than being wounded for 15 turns. It's now possible to block chaos rifts from spawning in your provinces by building the 'protection' chain of structures in a local settlement.

As an important reminder: this is only the FIRST update for Total War: WARHAMMER III. There are still many, many years set aside to continue the growth and evolution of the game: including new features (Blood Pack, “Immortal Empires,” , etc.), ongoing fixes (auto-resolve, siege battles, unit movement, sync animations), continued adjustments to balance (the Realm of Chaos, existing and new factions), and more.

Even if you don’t see something included in today’s build, know that there are a variety of fixes, investigations, and projects still being worked on so they can be included in the game. Many of these are inspired by your discussions in the community, so continue to hold those discussions!
