Total War: Warhammer 3 release date and everything else we know

When is the Total War: Warhammer 3 release date? Creative Assembly has finally - officially - announced their latest Total War strategy game, and everyone's very excited. The third entry in the popular 'Total Warhammer' franchise from Creative Assembly, this highly anticipated Total War game will shift focus to the east of the Warhammer Fantasy world, with a renewed look at the forces of Chaos.

Fan favourite faction Kislev return from the first game as a fully-fledged launch nation, valiantly trying to defend the realms of man from the invading chaos demons. The chaos faction itself has also been fleshed out, with all four iconic 'flavours' of chaos getting the full treatment. Plenty of other details have also been released in the wake of the announcement, which we've summarized for you below.

This is a living article which we will try and keep up-to-date as new information gets announced. If there's enough to talk about, we may also decide to spin-out dedicated guides for certain topics, which we'll link to below so you can access the information.

Total War: Warhammer 3's campaign map is twice the size of the last one

Total War: Warhammer III is on the way, Creative Assembly has confirmed today, and it's going to be big. Really big. The studio behind the massively popular strategy game series says the third and final chapter of the Total War: Warhammer trilogy roughly doubles the size of the last campaign map, with part of the territory "giving way to Chaos."

Speaking to PC Gamer, Warhammer III game director Ian Roxburgh says that the campaign map this time out can fairly be described as having an "unprecedented scale" in terms of the ambition Creative Assembly has brought to bear on the project. There are new features, new playable races, and a big new narrative arc to experience. But perhaps the most easily quantifiable new element is the massive new map.

"It's big," Roxburgh said. "Roughly twice the size of Warhammer II's Eye of the Vortex map ... And it needs to be, as this is the part of the Warhammer world that gives way to the Realms of Chaos, which take up a significant area in their own right."

Total War: Warhammer 3 will get another race as an 'early adopter' bonus

We imagine you're all fairly excited about the fact that Total War: Warhammer III has now been officially announced, with a trailer and details and stuff. Some of you have probably already shoved your hand deep into your pockets, pulled out a wad of cash, and thrown it at the screen before realising how silly that is. There's a pre-order button right there, you know.

But then you might also notice that - currently - there are no pre-order incentives. Fear not, because some are coming, but you'll have to wait for the details. Creative Assembly has confirmed, via the Warhammer III FAQ, that there will indeed be some kind of bonus for pre-ordering the game ahead of its launch later in the year.

The studio's being very vague on the details, but what they have said is that a race pack is planned to be the main offering. We won't find out more however for "a few months", so don't feel you need to stump up your cash right away.

Big Total War announcement due today, possibly Warhammer 3

February 3, 2021 Yes, it was Total War: Warhammer III.

If you're a frequent patron of the r/totalwar subreddit or even the official Total War discord, you might have noticed everyone seems a little excited today. This is because since last Friday, Creative Assembly has been teasing... something.

There have been four teasers, each a short animated video with some dude rambling while he looks into a telescope, and in each of the teasers he sees a different constellation from the Warhammer Fantasy universe. First it was Grungni's Baldric, then it was The Piper, followed by The Drummer and The Cauldron together. If you follow the analysis from the fans on reddit, these are each meant to relate to a specific Chaos God from the iconic Games Workshop pantheon: Khorne, Tzeentch, Slaanesh, and Nurgle.

There was also one final teaser that showed the 'Sign of Ursun', which is the God of Kislev. Kislev is a minor faction in Total War: Warhammer that's never had any specific attention paid to it, but it's a fan-favourite amongst the Warhammer community and a highly requested faction. They're the most northerly human civilisation in the Old World and a strong ally of The Empire.
