Total War: Warhammer 3 races - every faction confirmed, and a few that aren't

One of the biggest questions and causes of speculation around Total War: Warhammer III is simply: what will the launch races be?

Developer Creative Assembly has promised to include all 15 of the Warhammer eighth edition core races in its Total War games, which at this point leaves only Ogre Kingdoms and Daemons of Chaos. The studio has also promised that each game would have four races at launch. But with the Daemons sort-of breaking down into four smaller armies, one for each of the Dark Gods, how would Creative Assembly handle that? And who, other than ogres and daemons, could otherwise populate the new map?

Such were the questions ahead of the Total Warhammer 3 reveal trailer. Now that it's dropped, we have answers. And we're also able to speculate further into the future with a little more accuracy. These are all the races currently confirmed for Total War: Warhammer 3, plus a few others that are native to the lands where it will likely be set, and thus are candidates to arrive later via DLC.

The third entry in the popular 'Total Warhammer' franchise from Creative Assembly, this highly anticipated Total War game will shift focus to the east of the Warhammer Fantasy world, with a renewed look at the forces of Chaos.

Fan favourite faction Kislev return from the first game as a fully-fledged launch nation, valiantly trying to defend the realms of man from the invading chaos demons. The chaos faction itself has also been fleshed out, with all four iconic 'flavours' of chaos getting the full treatment. Plenty of other details have also been released in the wake of the announcement, which we've summarized for you below.

Total War: Warhammer 3's campaign map is twice the size of the last one

Total War: Warhammer III is on the way, Creative Assembly has confirmed today, and it's going to be big. Really big. The studio behind the massively popular strategy game series says the third and final chapter of the Total War: Warhammer trilogy roughly doubles the size of the last campaign map, with part of the territory "giving way to Chaos."

Speaking to PC Gamer, Warhammer III game director Ian Roxburgh says that the campaign map this time out can fairly be described as having an "unprecedented scale" in terms of the ambition Creative Assembly has brought to bear on the project. There are new features, new playable races, and a big new narrative arc to experience. But perhaps the most easily quantifiable new element is the massive new map.

"It's big," Roxburgh said. "Roughly twice the size of Warhammer II's Eye of the Vortex map ... And it needs to be, as this is the part of the Warhammer world that gives way to the Realms of Chaos, which take up a significant area in their own right."

Total War: Warhammer 3 will get another race as an 'early adopter' bonus

We imagine you're all fairly excited about the fact that Total War: Warhammer III has now been officially announced, with a trailer and details and stuff. Some of you have probably already shoved your hand deep into your pockets, pulled out a wad of cash, and thrown it at the screen before realising how silly that is. There's a pre-order button right there, you know.

But then you might also notice that - currently - there are no pre-order incentives. Fear not, because some are coming, but you'll have to wait for the details. Creative Assembly has confirmed, via the Warhammer III FAQ, that there will indeed be some kind of bonus for pre-ordering the game ahead of its launch later in the year.

The studio's being very vague on the details, but what they have said is that a race pack is planned to be the main offering. We won't find out more however for "a few months", so don't feel you need to stump up your cash right away.
