Total War: WARHAMMER III News

Landing is now a thing in Total War: Warhammer III

Back in June you may remember Creative Assembly published a large dev blog looking at changes that will be coming to tactical battles in Total War: Warhammer III. You'll be pleased to know there's even more coming, as the studio has released another update looking at various quality of life changes coming to the strategy game.

The headline change is that flying units have remembered that they also have perfectly serviceable legs, and they can now land if they want via a new on/off toggle for flyers. On a slightly more serious note, this does actually open up some decent tactical options for using aerial units, especially for flanking.

Joining this change is an array of new hotkeys, the Three Kingdoms formation mechanics, changes to healing effects, as well as new visual changes for things like bracing and health bars. You can also toggle a new option that will automatically put the game into half-speed when you're firing off a spell, for extra precision. There seems to be just as many mechanical quality-of-life changes as there are visual ones.

Total Warhammer 3's Ogre Legendary Lords show what peak Ogre performance looks like

We've gotten sidelong looks at Total War: Warhammer III's Ogre Kingdoms legendary lords to date, but now we've gotten proper introductions. Greasus Goldtooth and Skrag the Slaughterer will be leading the hungry lads into battle when the upcoming strategy game launches next year, and some new Total War blogs have the delicious details on the fearsome pair.

First up is Greasus Goldtooth, an ogre who revels in superlatives. According to the lore, Greasus assumed the title of overtyrant after making a stew out of his own father, an act he followed up by striking a plumb deal with Zhao Ming of Grand Cathay. The terms of the agreement gave Greasus control over the crucial Ivory Road trading route that passes through Ogre territory on its way between Cathay and the rest of the Old World.

Greasus became quite rich off this arrangement, but it wasn't until he defeated the Black Orc Warlord Urk at the Fire Mouth that he was able to assert dominance over the rest of the Ogre tribes and become overtyrant - and he's assumed several more big names over the course of his career.

Total War: Warhammer 3's Ogre Kingdoms units are surprisingly well-rounded

Kislev, Khorne, Tzeentch, Cathay - they've all had their time in the pre-release spotlight in the long leadup to the Total War: Warhammer III release date. Lately, however, we've gotten our first peek at the strategy game's tallest and hungriest faction, the Ogre Kingdoms. In a new video highlighting a selection of the Ogre Kingdoms' unit roster, we get a look at how well-rounded these big meat-eating lads really are.

Zerkovich's latest video shows off a partial selection of the Ogre Kingdoms army roster. It ranges from the diminutive Gnoblars at the small end up to the fearsome legendary lords Skrag the Slaughterer and Greasus Goldteeth at the other. In between, you have a surprisingly wide array of potential jobs for an ambitious young ogre to fill, whether their preference is melee combat or hunting down huge monsters on horseback.

The Ogre Kingdoms are a mobile society that operate somewhat like a horde faction, a concept introduced in Total War: Attila. As such, they're relatively lightly armoured compared to other factions: metal armour and shields are a rarity in these ranks. The basic Gnoblar infantry lacks any of the anti-large spear weapons or silver shields carried by their Goblin counterparts in Greenskin armies, but they make up for their lack of protection by being extremely cheap to recruit.
