Total War Access - everything you need to know

So, just what is Total War Access anyway? Well, to give you the cliff notes; it's a unified login for all Total War games. It involves a mailing list (which you can opt out of) and a range of freebies which have included everything from in-game content, to money off deals, and ebooks.

Beyond that, it's likely an experiment by Creative Assembly to unify their users under one umbrella so that they can engage with the fanbase in one place, perhaps even one day creating some kind of loyalty program. The freebies given away so far have been interesting but not ground-breaking - the most exciting perhaps being the free Regiments of Renown released for Total Warhammer 1 races, as well as the Gotrek and Felix DLC for Warhammer 2.

This latter DLC was originally only available as an exclusive via the September 2019 issue of White Dwarf, but after that was made available for all Total War Access members. Total War Access itself is free, so you don't need to pay or subscribe to gain access to the freebies. You also remain eligible for free goodies even if you opt out of all of the marketing communication that goes out via the platform.

Total War: Warhammer 3 details leak as new gameplay teaser drops

The internet strikes again! While Creative Assembly has said previously that more Total War: Warhammer III news was due sometime this month, we imagine the studio didn't mean that a 4Chan user would leak images and a description of a new battle type all over the web.

The original post that contained the leaked information has reportedly been deleted, but someone on the r/totalwar subreddit has compiled all of the written notes into one thread. You can also see the images here and here. No one from Creative Assembly or publisher Sega has explicitly confirmed the leak is legit, but they have today released a gameplay teaser ahead of a full reveal next week which provides context.

The leaker claims the battle is called 'Assault on the Brass Citadel' and the main screen shows what can be assumed to be Kislev units, as they are being led by a woman wielding icy powers who, from her portrait, can only be Kislev's leader Tzarina Katarina. The objective in the top-left of the main screen indicates that the player is fighting the Chaos daemons of Khorne, so this is the same match-up as in the original announcement trailer.

Total War: Warhammer 3 should settle its fights with games of Blood Bowl

Picture this: you're playing a Total War: Warhammer III Mortal Empires campaign as the noble Skaven (we're assuming it's in the game). Your glorious Under-Empire is expanding at pace, but you're short on cash. "Skavenslaves," you shout, "bring me the rat-phone, so I may call upon my old mate Karl Franz for a trade deal." Despite your generous offer, the human emperor won't budge.

There is but one solution. One strategy that would force Franz to deliver his finest imperial cheeses straight to your snout. I am, of course, talking about Creative Assembly including Blood Bowl as a diplomacy option in Total War: Warhammer III.

Blood Bowl is a parody of American Football set in a sort-of-but-not-quite version of Warhammer Fantasy's Old World, where disputes are settled via hyper-violent sports. In the pantheon of Games Workshop games, it's something of a cockroach. First emerging in 1986, it has survived through a mix of official support and fan torch-bearing right up to 2016's reboot and last year's second edition.

Total War: Warhammer 3 Cathay faction - everything we know

One of the most exciting revelations in the recent Total War: Warhammer 3 announcement trailer was that Grand Cathay, the Warhammer world's analogue of China, would be a launch race in the upcoming strategy game.

This is a big deal. Cathay has existed in Warhammer since at least 1984, when it was mentioned in the lore book for the tabletop game's second edition, and in the almost 30 years since a steady trickle of further details has accumulated to give a decent sense of its armies and its culture, as we'll discover. But despite this, Grand Cathay - canonically the largest human nation in the world - has never had an official army book. Even official depictions of the nation or its troops have been amazingly rare.

This means that Cathay's appearance in Warhammer 3 is, for all intents and purposes, its debut as a fully realised army. It's amazing that that's happening in a third party's game, and speaks to the trust that Warhammer creator Games Workshop has placed in Total War developer Creative Assembly.
