Hades 2 patch 8 has just landed in the wake of last week's Warsong update, with developer Supergiant Games tackling notable bugs and issues alongside a range of balance changes for a few weapons, boons, and enemy types that needed them. The studio thanks players for feedback and says it hopes these changes will make for "a smoother play experience as you battle toward the final confrontation," and adds that it's now shifting focus to the game's third major update.

Quote of the Patch
'Zeus now cast his new weapon, pale and blinding, through the fabric of the sky, ripping it end to end; then he hurled another, stronger, at his father: it fell like a white-hot sword thrust with inexorable force.'

Hades 2's Athena VA claims that they may be recast in a "popular game"

February 20, 2025, 13:32 PST Supergiant has released a statement saying that it has not recast any of its characters in Hades 2. The full statement has been added further down this article.

The voice behind Athena in both the original Hades and its sequel Hades 2, Marin Miller, has shared a post on their personal BlueSky account claiming that they may be recast in a "particular game that is very popular." According to Miller, if a recast does take place, it isn't because they "stepped away from the character willingly. It's because the employer refused to flip to an interim." In a follow-up post, the voice actor wrote that "it would be SUPER [sic] helpful if you wrote a GIANT [sic] email asking them to flip for their actors."

Hades 2 gets a giant new update, but the roguelike still can't share 1.0 plans

Despite being in an incomplete early access form, Hades 2 is already a contender to become one of the best roguelikes ever. We'll need to wait until it's totally finished before judging it against its exquisite, genre-leading predecessor, but Supergiant appears to be doing everything right so far. A brand new major update - the second of Hades 2's life so far - has just arrived, and not only does it flesh out, rework, and improve many key systems, it also adds in a final encounter for the surface route that sees you reach the top of Mount Olympus. However, despite the huge amount of content being added, Supergiant says it's still not confident enough to talk about 1.0 plans for Hades 2 just yet.

Development Progress

We're excited to have launched this Major Update, since it includes numerous ideas we've been eager to implement since we started working on Hades II years ago! But we're not finished yet, and have already made plans for our third Major Update, which we intend to deliver some months from now. Note it's still too early to share our plans beyond that, including when our v1.0 launch will be.

After any follow-up patches to The Warsong Update that address issues or feedback we think we can resolve in the short term, we'll focus on these major initiatives:
  • Hidden Aspects: The Nocturnal Arms still have some secrets left to be discovered, and new ways for you to play. We plan for you to be able to wield some of these next time.

  • Enhanced Guardians: The boss battles at the end of each Region are an integral part of the experience, and we want them to be able to challenge and surprise you even more.

  • Expanded Story: As we prepare for our eventual v1.0 launch, we're planning ahead for the rest of the story, while building on various character relationships and subplots.

We appreciate your continued patience and support as we forge ahead!

Beyond the Final Confrontation!

Early Access continues to be an essential part of Hades II development, and we hope you can feel this reflected in our Major Updates and other patches so far. With the core structure of both the Underworld and Surface routes now fully intact, we're excited to turn our attention to filling out more of the game's content categories, finishing more and more of what we started... until we're done!

In the meantime, thank you very much for playing Hades II! You're helping us get closer to achieving our goal of making our first-ever sequel our biggest, most replayable game yet, and a worthy successor to the original Hades that's filled with its own surprises and special touches. For now, we'll be looking forward to your impressions of The Warsong Update, and hearing of your adventures above the surface and below!
