I did a little 25 min. trip back through development and go over 3 years of dev. from memory! ( so most of it is probably untrue).

wow what a crazy week... due to the California black outs i was without power and internet for a few days this week, but when we did have power i went live and recorded a few videos for you all to enjoy.

in this vid we finally show of the games playable tutorial, and i wear a really badass hand made hat (made by Cobalt streaks mother!)

I also recorded another play through with bum-bo the weird, show a few updates and talk about random dev stuff.

today we spoil Bum-bo the Stout! in this lets play i break down who the stout is, was and try my luck with chaos! one of my personal fav. lets plays and i hope you enjoy it!

BONUS QA (this time answering your dev questions)

Q: will there be more lets plays by Peach and Danielle?
A: well i guess so, people seemed to really enjoy that so, why not!?

Q: will there be a final boss or multiple final bosses?
A: there is one final boss.

Q: will there be items unlocks and the like, like in isaac?
A: yes, there are over 20 locked items and a bunch of endings and other unlocks staggered out that are tied to beating X with Y or doing specific things much like in isaac.

Q: is this game actually really related to isaac? or just little references?
A: yes, this game is a prequel to the binding of isaac, it takes place months before TBOI and will make perfect sense if you beat the games final boss.

Q: are item names going to be added?
A: currently no, we pushed focus on the icon and description of said item, i kinda interested in just seeing what people will call each item.

Q: was designing a puzzle/turn based roguelike harder than an action one?
A: very very much so, ive never really made a puzzle game before let alone one as complex as this, so it took a few years to just wrap my brain around what this type of game actually wanted over one like isaac.

Q: what elements did you scrap from bum-bos orginal design?
A: we scrapped a ton, and it wasnt that the elements werent good, they just complemented a game like isaac more than a game like bum-bo and i didnt expect the 2 to be that different. the main things we cut were exploration based, traps, door types, room types, npcs and familiars all got cut due to them slowing down an already long winded game play session.

Today we spoil Bum-bo the Stout! The defensive control tank who loves to eat (his mana!)



Bum-bo the Stout was originally designed as a Cleric who would focus on making hearts and healing himself with a yum heart, but that proved to be quite boring... with a few redesigns and a mechanical suggestion by Tyler i decided that it would be best if he became more of a crowd control character with a huge upside and minor downside...

The Stout starts with 2 spells:

- The Stick: this medium damage spell uses 3 brown mana and deals 2 damage and knocks an enemy back 1 space from bum-bo, if a primed melee enemy is moved, it unprimes.



- The Blender Blade: a puzzle spell that costs 3 green mana and removes the tile selected as well as all tiles touching up down left and right from it.



Bum-bo The Stouts Stats:

Hearts: 2
Spell Damage: 2
Moves: 2
Puzzle Damage: 1
Luck: 1

Character Special Ability: Goodie Bag!

Stout has the ability to gain +1 bonus mana for each 2 mana gained of the same type. so if you get a 4 combo of boogers, you gain +6 mana and a 6+ combo will yield max mana of that type ( you cant gain more than 9 mana). this enables the stout to pull of some crazy hits on his turn but there is a down side... at the end of each of his turns, he eats all his mana.



this makes items that use multiple types of mana more difficult to cast and changes the game a great deal.

since i wont be showing off the stout in action, and you guys seem to love lets plays, i thought it would be fun to have Danielle do a lets play since shes been testing the game non stop for the past few weeks.. then she thought it would be fun to include peach in on the action ( she just turned 4 )... get ready for some chaos!

Q: how are characters unlocked?
A: you unlock the first 4 characters by completing chapter 3 with each one in order starting with The Brave ( the only unlocked character at the start)

Q: will spells have synergy like in isaac?
A: very much so, most spells were designed to play into specific draft archetypes and tend to synergies in interesting ways.

Q: how many bosses are there per chapter?
A: currently each chapter has 3 bosses.
