"Better Together" Free Content Update - LIVE NOW

Howdy there Wizards,

[h3]We're happy to announce that we've gone and done it:

4-player co-op is here! [/h3]

[h2]The "Better Together" update is live right now! [/h2]

This is a free update that increases multiplayer to up to four wizards. It also includes a large number of content changes that we’re excited to share. If you’re curious about everything we’ve been working on, read below.

[h2]4 Players can now explore the Shatter Together[/h2]

Finally.

Gather three wizard friends and log on! The shatter is open for you to explore. Be careful, with increased wandpower comes increased challenges!





[h2]Over Easy or Hard Boiled[/h2]

[h3]New Difficulty Levels[/h3]
Customize your experience to your preferred skill and challenge level with four unique difficulty levels.

  • Ranger - a less challenging experience with lower penalties for failure.
  • Gunslinger - the default difficulty setting.
  • Sheriff - a more challenging experience than default.
  • Outlaw - a brutal and demanding experience, not for the faint of wand!


[h3]Custom Difficulty[/h3]
If you’re not sure what mode to choose, don’t worry, we’ve introduced a several sliders for you to customize your difficulty in whatever way you wish. Adjust the game to suit your desires, including:
  • Damage Received
  • Enemy Health
  • Enemy Speed
  • Apocalypse Rate
  • If items are lost in death [Toggle]
  • If Arcana is lost in death [Toggle]
  • Difficulty scales per player [Toggle]




[h2]Lore Galore[/h2]

[h3]Libraries[/h3]
Available to all wizards by default, the recipe for the general library can be found in the worldbuilder!

“But, Galvanic,” we hear you say “we already have bookshelves!”

Not like this one, you don’t!



These sturdy shelves hold all the secrets you’ve collected in your journey, and allow you to easily access your favorite pieces of lore.



Each shelf in this library reflects a specific archetype of magic. We’ve added bookshelf variant recipes that reflect that archetype's style, too – but they’re only available to the wizards that persevere. Collecting enough literature to fill a shelf will reward you with its associated bookshelf recipe.



[h3] New Lore [/h3]
New reading materials can also be found in areas around the shatter and in boss arenas. Discover the secrets of the gods and the Imperium's final days. Find out why Hilda's riders have a bounty on them. Read some poetry. Super-sorcerer-slueths will have plenty to uncover in this update.

Do you dare explore what waits for you?
There is something lurking in the depths of the void, beyond the gate of the Oculus. Gather your friends and find out what waits for you – if you dare!

"Better Together" 1.4 Patch Notes

Hello Wizarding Folk!


Warning, the following patch notes include some minor spoilers for the “Better Together” update, if you’d like to stay spoiler-free, please click away!

[h2]"Better Together" - 1.4 Patch Notes[/h2]

[h3]New Content[/h3]
  • Multiplayer supports up to 4 players per game session
  • 4 preset difficulty modes and custom difficulty options
  • Additional lore and books throughout the game
  • New Library UI (for the lore!)
  • 5 new bookshelf variants
  • Added “activated” version of the Oculus
  • Voidskimmer can now be interacted with in the Tower
  • Updated endgame content and secret ending 👀
  • 5 new achievements to unlock
  • New music featuring the bard!


General Improvements
  • Updated VFX & animations for entities
  • Updated VFX & animations for some buildings in game
  • Updated SFX for new content and some Bounty of Guns weapons
  • Map Altar Activation VFX updated
  • Difficulty scaling will be notified to players at the start of the expedition
  • Updated credits to include: Michael Garrett Steele (voice of the bard)!




[h2]Other Changes[/h2]

Resources, Recipes, Crafting and Building
  • Fixed missing thumbnails and incorrect thumbnails in the First Edition
  • Spawned items and resources should now decay properly
  • Bounty rewards should fall into the void less frequently
  • Rotated stone chests should now always close if they contain items


Spells and Powders
  • “On Fire” scale should be a little less egregious on large enemies
  • Fixed fire flickering on entities that teleport
  • Fixed mortar impacts being immortal in the tower (dripping oil will no longer haunt you forever)
  • Order spells should now consistently repair buildings in the tower
  • Fixed performance when shooting poison into water
  • Introduced Boomerang powder in the physics research station


Enemies, NPCs and Combat
  • Pet & Charmed interactions have received some polish
  • Hilda animations have been updated
  • All applicable entities should now be able to be scanned with the First Edition
  • Fixed “assist when knocked” issues in multiplayer games
  • Harbinger will now always spawn from a rift (the Oculus holds deeper secrets now)
  • Updates to Golden Bounty rewards (New stuff? New stuff!)
  • Fixed interaction with bounty mechana in boss arenas
  • Sniper Cultists now have double health (they were too easy!)


Other / Misc
  • Fixed audio balance for the Harbinger of Chaos fight
  • Updated and fixed several boss biome books (if you’re missing a book, I would start at Orion’s tower 👀)
  • Moved credits and endgame slideshow to end of new content
  • Fixed UI for minimized task list (it should no longer cut off for some users)
  • Extended connection timeout to allow for slower connections
  • Adjusted Hermit Crab ambush to be more performant
  • Fixed arrows in loading bench tutorial
  • Fixed crashes on client after being kicked from a multiplayer game


Known Issues + Things we’re working on!
  • Boomerang powder might not unlock if you've already completed some physics research (we're patching this in the next update!)
  • The Huntress might incorrectly loop an idle animation.
  • An endgame quest might appear incomplete in multiplayer (the game will still progress, you'll just have the quest marker active)
  • Some bounty guns will not be available (these are being patched back in soon!)
  • "Shattered Soul" has an incorrect description (woopsie!)
  • Charmed entities that have been revived might incorrectly display on the map (your zombie children are not real!)
  • Swapping items into processing stations might no longer remember their origin (it was in your backpack, but now it’s in the chest)
  • The “burning” VFX might obscure some smaller enemies
  • Odden’s Middle Finger might not display correctly on the gun mount building
  • “0/1 gears collected” might display after collecting all gears (there is not a secret hidden gear, I promise)

Small Patch - 1.3.7 Patch Notes

Hello Wizarding Folk!
While we’re hard at work on our next big update “Better Together” we cleaned up a few bugs that were hanging around in the shatter.



1.3.7 Patch Notes
General Improvements
  • Fixed a couple of performance related crashes when several enemies spawn at once.
  • Fixed a couple of multiplayer related crashes due to incompatible save files.
  • Updated some map icons! They should be clearer to read now!
  • Updated bounty board images, and some first edition images too!
  • Several performance fixes have been added to help in later game areas.


Resources, Recipes, Crafting and Building
  • Plague doctor mask, jester hat, and a couple of other costumes have had typos fixed.
  • Fixed some entities not unlocking in the First Edition, some spelling errors, and missing entries! Let’s get learning!
  • The Hidden Bush collection Splash image should now show all items unlocked.
  • Some building variant names were fixed for typos!


Spells and Powders
  • Fixed a few edge cases with charm spells and charmed entities not behaving as expected.
  • Replaced missing SFX for some guns and spells


Enemies, NPCs and Combat
  • Fixed some gear icons not appearing above the heads of enemies that drop them.
  • Fixed the chance for some chaos rifts to spawn invisible (they should be easier to track down now).
  • Made some minor adjustments to “Jeremy Edwards” combat
  • See if you can find the new exploding puff ball changes in the Fell!




Known Issues + Things we’re still working on!
  • Kingpin will be missing an icon! where did they go???
  • There are some goofy animations and missing sounds for some late-game enemies.
  • Some users might experience additional performance issues in the Barren Sea
  • If you’d like to report poor performance: please use the “User Report” button on your esc menu
  • Some users might dislike the game! (We’re sorry! We’re trying really hard!)

Howdy Gunslingers!
We wanted to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who took the time to playtest our 4-player beta this weekend. The stress test was a success and your participation was appreciated by the entire team!

As a reminder, if you participated, your save file might not work in your default game. If you attempt to load the BETA save file please expect issues, errors, or crashes.
