Titan Quest II Early Access Look: Nostalgic in All the Right Ways

Titan Quest is a title that has been near and dear to my heart since its release in June 2006. As a huge fan of ARPG’s it was a unique take on the genre with its dual class system and mythological Greek setting. When Titan Quest II was announced two years ago, I was more than a little excited over the news. Having already previewed the title back in March, I’ve been anticipating my time to jump in and give it a go. Spoilers: I was not disappointed.

Set in the same mythological Greek setting as the original, Titan Quest II follows a new story arc. While I’ll avoid narrative spoilers, the story delivery, handled through a series of well-constructed cut-scenes and in-game voice acting, has been solid. Story beats never slow down game pacing and feel well placed and well delivered. In-game voice work is consistent, with dialogue befitting the setting, all working together to create a fun, immersive narrative and world.

Character creation, on the other hand, is a bit limiting at... Read more

Titan Quest II - Early Access Hotfix 2

[p]Today we are happy to announce our second Early Access Hotfix, you can find a full changelog below.[/p]
Titan Quest II - Early Access Hotfix 2 - 0.1.1-public.98466+win.1730
[p][/p][p]After launch we got a small but noticeable number of reports from players losing their save games. This is obviously one of the most critical issues you can have, since losing progress like that will kill the fun out of any game. This patch focuses mostly on addressing those issues with a few minor fixes that made it in along the way.[/p][p][/p][p]Save File Corruption Protection[/p][p]Most of the issues seem to be related to game crashes or other reasons that could lead to save files being written partially to disk. In order to prevent this, we added more safeguards when saving and loading, including automatic backups that will be restored automatically on next game launch.[/p][p][/p][p]Cross Character Save Games[/p][p]We split cross character savegames by game version ("Public" and "MultiplayerPreview" builds will now each use a dedicated cross character savegame).[/p][p][/p][p]This mainly affects the Caravan "transfer" tabs, but also tutorial progression, both of which are stored independently of your characters and their campaign progress.[/p][p][/p][p]The existing data will be automatically migrated to both of those environments.[/p][p][/p][p]- Fixed Caravan stash for Neophyte characters not being saved. Neophyte characters now share the Default difficulty Caravan as intended.[/p][p][/p][p]Gameplay[/p][p]- Fixed dash with the "Always use without moving" option toggled of not working[/p][p]- Fixed infinite dash damage exploit[/p][p][/p][p]Crash Fixes[/p][p]- Fixed players being able to purchase more caravan stash tabs than intended. This would cause crashes when loading the game. For this reason the stash tabs XII and higher will be lost (including the items in them).[/p][p][/p][p]- Application shutdown crash[/p]

Titan Quest 2 system requirements

The base Titan Quest 2 system requirements are incredibly high compared to other ARPGs, putting Diablo 4, Last Epoch, and Path of Exile 2 all to shame. Sadly, this means you're going to need a somewhat powerful rig to even get this game running, never mind getting it to run with a high frame rate at high resolutions.

Just looking at what you'll need to run Titan Quest 2 as recommended by the developer, you're going to need one of, if not the best gaming PC from our buying guides. The game's incredibly high specs will likely prove prohibitive to your average gaming rig, especially those that are in need of an upgrade, and could well hamper the game's efforts to rank among the best games like Diablo, and the best ARPGs.
