Update 1.18.0.2

[p]Hello everyone! We’re releasing a hotfix today to address some pressing issues reported to us by the community since the release of All Under Heaven last week. Please check the changelog below for more information![/p][p][/p]

[p][/p]
Update 1.18.0.2 Changelog
Bugfixes
• [p]Fixed a crash that could happen if the player was part of an invalid situation participant group.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed a crash that could happen if adaptive framerate was enabled and the game was paused by an event.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed the Buy Claim interaction not costing any Piety when targeting a hegemony tier title.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed the Buy Claim interaction being unlocked for everyone, regardless of government when picking the "Sanctioned Loopholes" Lifestyle Perk. Governments with Merit, as well as Japanese governments, no longer have access to it, as intended.[/p]
 • [p]When playing as a Governor in a realm with Merit, courtiers will now move to your new location when you gain or lose a title. If a courtier gets 'lost' in a location they should not be in, they'll return within a year.[/p]
 • [p]Independent celestial rulers can now host exams. This means for instance that local exams can be held during the division era.[/p]
 • [p]Added missing effects for actually handing over the contested titles to the attacker after winning a Seize Hegemonic Duchy war.[/p]
 • [p]The Hegemon can now reject tributary missions in the event where they come bearing tribute. This allows you to not get tributaries sworn to you that you do not want (for example if you’d rather attack them).[/p]
 • [p]Aligned the requirements for Acknowledge Hegemon and the Tribute Mission decisions (Kowtow to —, Pay Tribute etc.).[/p]
 • [p]Acknowledge Hegemon should now be aligned with actually being able to go on a tribute mission to the Hegemon in question.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed so that the Seal of Investiture can be properly gifted by the Huangdi, and so that it is the Huangdi that decides, rather than the Tributary themselves.[/p]
 • [p]Male and female Chinese Hegemons are now called Huángdì, their female consorts Húanghòu, and male consorts Húangfū.[/p]
 • [p]Made it so that newly invited members to a Japanese House Bloc cannot leave it before 10 years have passed.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed most holy site bonuses for the Mu faith being the same.[/p]
 • [p]Removed the potential for new Chinese realms in the vicinity of k_guannei to obtain the dynastic name of Qi, which it is not part of.[/p]
 • [p]Removed the potential for new Chinese realms in the vicinity of k_huainan to obtain the dynastic name of Shu, which it is not part of.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed a loophole causing dynastically named Chinese realms to retain their names even when absorbed by other realms and ensured that you retain your existing dynastic name - if you have one - when taking over China.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed an incorrect trigger in the ability to recruit Zhanmadao Infantry.[/p]
 • [p]Oath buildings can now be built in Temple Citadels.[/p]
 • [p]The Seize Mandate of Heaven casus belli will now run the same effect as the “Claim Mandate of Heaven” decision if the attacker wins, turning their realm into a proper Celestial one.[/p]
 • [p]Allowed the Emperor of China to use the Consolidation casus belli on all de jure Kingdoms in Empires: Zhongyuan, Jingyang, Lingnan, Liangyi and Yongliang (with the exception of Kingdoms: Xia, Hexi, Dali and Viet) regardless of the Cycle Era.[/p]
 • [p]Claiming the Mandate of Heaven will trigger the Conquest Era only if the claimant is of a different dynasty and have either non-Chinese culture heritage or non-Celestial Government.[/p]
 • [p]Reclaiming the Mandate of Heaven will now automatically vassalize independent realms inside the Dynastic Cycle region if they have the same cultural heritage, celestial government, or same dynasty.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed the maximum cap for regular buildings in a barony being set one too low (max of 5 instead of 6).[/p]
 • [p]Custom Title names gained from renaming should now be correctly displayed.[/p]
 • [p]Celestial independent rulers may now fund disaster relief without a minister to fund them.[/p]
 • [p]Reduced low FPS/stuttering in specific map regions (Angkor for example) caused by an excessive amount of expensive jungle trees.[/p]
 • [p]Optimized jungle tree map assets to reduce stuttering.[/p]
 • [p]Duke tier player Celestial rulers can now tweak the Province obligation type of Counts underneath them (AI already could).[/p]
 • [p]We no longer show warning messages when loading saves with only a ‘build’ version difference (1.18.0.1 to 1.18.0.2 = no warning).[/p]
[p] [/p]
Game Content
• [p]Added a decision 'Command Family to take Exams', available to House Heads, which makes unlanded family members independently go to local exams (if they need to pass the local exam) and Capital Exams (if they need to pass the Metropolitan or Palace exam) without the need for you to take them there. As long as they are within your realm, they will create their own travels, and you will be notified via Feed Message if they pass (this already existed).[/p]
[p][/p]
Game Balance
• [p]Removed the MAA Maintenance, MAA Recruitment Costs, and Army maintenance penalties imposed by the Dynastic Cycle on the Huangdi; the Celestial government already had increased maintenance from the Treasury defines and didn't need more. This should make China more resistant to going bankrupt during revolts.[/p]
 • [p]The Grand Marshal has their MAA hiring and maintenance costs reduced, to compensate for not being able to station troops, and to make sure they can get an army that can exceed Kingdom-tier armies in strength.[/p]
 • [p]Removed some excessive men_at_arms_cap modifiers from the Celestial government, as this is handled through the Army Command Structure laws instead.[/p]
 • [p]Increased the toughness of Tiefutu cavalry.[/p]
 • [p]Decreased the attack of Tiefutu cavalry.[/p]
 • [p]Reduced the costs for Zhanmadao Infantry.[/p]
 • [p]The Meritocratic Khanate and Meritocratic governments now have the same bonus to Vassal Limit as Celestial (100 -> 20), as they are historically supposed to be modeled after Celestial.[/p]
 • [p]Added merit and passed exams modifiers to all Celestial vassals after taking the Claim the Mandate of Heaven decision. This should make it so that negative catalysts should trigger less often at the start of a new Dynasty’s reign.[/p]
 • [p]The Grand Campaign war will no longer result in tributaries, instead it will always give contested titles directly to the Hegemon.[/p]
 • [p]When there are way too few entrants with a martial education passing the examinations, we lower the barrier a bit to allow at least a few characters to succeed in the examinations. This will ensure that we continuously add more characters to the pool of available military candidates over time.[/p]
[p][/p]
Databases
• [p]Made various corrections and improvements to the traits, stats, and familial relationships of various historical Chinese characters.[/p]
 • [p]Reshuffled the arrangement of title holders in k_kuizhou to ensure that the new capital is held by the governor on game start.[/p]
 • [p]Zhu Xi and family members changed to the Daoxue faith, in line with community feedback.[/p]
 • [p]Corrected a misrepresentation of Yan Shu's gender.[/p]
 • [p]Changed the faith of Wang Chuyi to Quanzhen.[/p]
 • [p]Changed the de jure capital of k_kuizhou to c_kuizhou.[/p]
 • [p]Renamed Mu Mount Seorak holy site to Mount Geumgang.[/p]
[p] [/p][p][/p]

[p][/p][p]As always, if you encounter any issues after today’s update, please submit a bug report via the Community Support board here on Steam or via the bug report board on our official forums.[/p][p]
We hope this update improves your experience in All Under Heaven and the associated 1.18 “Crane” Update![/p]

Dev Diary #189 - Post-Release Support

[p]Greetings everyone, @rageair and @egghorse here![/p][p][/p][p]It’s been almost a week since All Under Heaven went live, and it’s really humbling to see how many of you are playing - and we’ve been having a blast following your reactions and reading your comments! We’ve also seen plenty of suggestions, requests and inspiring mods from the community in the past few days, which made us want to shed some light on our post-release plans for All Under Heaven. [/p][p][/p][p]Last Thursday, we launched the first post-release patch for All Under Heaven (you can see the changelog for Update 1.18.0.1 here), where we tackled a few key issues such as crashes. I’m happy to report that this was the first of many more to come. Let’s take a look at what we’re currently working on! [/p][p][/p]
Update 1.18.0.2 (upcoming minor update)
[p]Update 1.18.0.2 is releasing tomorrow on Steam, with a grab bag of bugfixes, crash fixes, balance changes and improvements to databases. The full changelog will be released alongside the update itself, but for now we want to cover some highlights from this update as well as the updates still to come. [/p][p]
[/p]
Family members not enthused about their studies
[p]We’ve seen many players report that your immediate family is a bit hard to wrangle when it comes to getting their credentials. To make this less frustrating, we’ve added a decision called “Command Family to take Exams,” which will be available to House Heads. Taking this decision will make your unlanded family members independently go to local exams (if they need to pass the local exam) and Capital Exams (if they need to pass the Metropolitan or Palace exam) without the need for you to take them there. As long as they are within the same top realm as you, they will create their own travels, and you will be notified via Feed Message if they pass. Additionally, when playing as a Governor in a realm with Merit, courtiers will now always move to your new location when you gain or lose a title; If a courtier gets 'lost' in a location they should not be in, they'll return within a year.[/p][p]
[/p]
Improvements to Celestial Government
[p]A few balance changes have been made to address ongoing frustrations when playing in China: [/p]
 • [p]Removed the MaA Maintenance and Army maintenance penalties imposed by the Dynastic Cycle on the Huangdi; the Celestial government already had increased maintenance from the Treasury defines, and didn't need more. This should make China more resistant to going bankrupt during revolts.[/p]
 • [p]Removed some excessive men_at_arms_cap modifiers from the Celestial government, as this is handled through the Army Command Structure laws instead.[/p]
 • [p]The Grand Campaign war will no longer result in China gaining additional tributaries. Instead, it will always give contested titles directly to the Hegemon. [/p]
 • [p]The Chinese Emperor will now be able to use the “Consolidation” CB on within these De Jure Empires: Zhongyuan, Jingyang, Lingnan, Liangyi and Yongliang (with the exception of the De Jure Kingdoms of Xia, Hexi, Dali and Viet - we don’t want Song to immediately fight Xia in 1066) regardless of the era the Dynastic Cycle is in. [/p]
 • [p]The Hegemon can now reject tributary missions in the event where they come bearing tribute. This allows you to not get tributaries sworn to you that you do not want (for example if you’d rather attack them).[/p]
[p]
[/p][p]We are also continuing to improve our databases and localization based on player feedback we’ve been receiving since Tuesday. For example, consorts of the Chinese Hegemon should now be correctly called Húanghòu, if female, or Húangfū, respectively, if male. [/p][p][/p][p]If a fix you’ve been waiting for is not included in 1.18.0.2, it’s very likely that it will be part of the larger updates coming soon, such as 1.18.1. Oftentimes, if it’s a tricky bug to solve, we need more time to test to ensure we haven’t broken other things in the process. Content that requires new localization also needs a bit of time in the oven to be translated! [/p][p][/p][p]That said, we will also have a few slightly bigger patches for All Under Heaven coming out in the next few weeks. What is and isn’t included in these patches is, of course, subject to change - we keep an eye on community sentiment, suggestions and bug reports, and try to juggle between severity, impact, and risk.[/p][p] [/p]
Update 1.18.1
[p]We’re planning for update 1.18.1 to go live sometime next week. As usual, the changelog will be available once the update rolls out, but we’ll try to give you a sneak peek in the section below. [/p][p]
Some visual improvements will be coming to South East Asia, with several new headwear pieces and clothing being added. In total, we will be adding 4 clothes, 7 hairstyles and 4 headgears. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]\[Some examples of hairstyles and headgear being added to Southeast Asia.][/p][p][/p][p]For a small touch of realism, we’re also adding blendshapes for long ears. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]\[Screenshots of the new long ear blendshapes in Southeast Asia.][/p][p][/p][p]Here’s also a work-in-progress screenshot of something one of our character artists is working on for Japan: a new mask for Disfigured characters. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]\[A work-in-progress screenshot of a Japanese mask.] [/p][p]
Our character art team is also looking at improving character lighting, as we’ve gotten reports of it looking vastly different (and not necessarily better) on various machines. [/p][p][/p][p]This update is also adding various fixes to the map and terrain: shoreline fixes, making sure all lakes have water where they should, adjustments to the heightmap etc. [/p][p]
[/p][p]\[Bugfix: Rotated Heian-Kyo city and added the Palace model to it.] [/p][p]
Our environment team has also been trying to add a bit more mood to the Chinese courtroom. Based on community feedback, the team has added more candles and carpets, pillars and drapes. The imperial tent has also been updated.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]\[Updated lighting in the Chinese Royal Court.] [/p][p][/p][p]This update also includes a few minor interface fixes. For example, House Relation icons have been added to the House Coat-of-Arms to improve usability: [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]\[House Relation icon on the House CoA.]
[/p][p]A new Legend skin for Asia has been added to improve flavor and consistency: [/p][p] [/p][p]\[New Legend Chronicle skin.] [/p][p]
We’re also adjusting the AI to better utilize Legends.[/p][p][/p][p]Besides updates from our artists, we also have some new bits of content. Below you can see a new decision to “Found a Ryukyuan Empire” which you’ll be able to try out in 1.18.1. For our world conquest enthusiasts, the decision to establish a Ryukyuan Empire presents a formidable challenge due to its Realm Size requirements. However, we all know this was your destiny to begin with if you choose to play as a Ryukyuan! You will also get to choose a family heirloom as a reward to solidify your achievement of showing the world the power of the Three Mountains. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]\[Screenshot of the “Found a Ryukyuan Empire” decision.] [/p][p]
We’ve also added a decision to “Found the Siam Kingdom,” which is meant to represent the Tai people's ambition to unite under a single banner after their flight to the southern lands.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]\[Screenshot of the “Found the Siam Kingdom” decision.] [/p]
Update 1.18.2
[p]Closer to the end of November, we plan to release another update: 1.18.2. One of the main focuses, next to a batch of bugfixes, will be improving gameplay as a Minister, adding content variation to that playstyle. [/p][p][/p]
Further Updates
[p]We plan to continue addressing bugs in All Under Heaven beyond the updates shared above. You shouldn’t be surprised if you see a smaller patch drop in-between or after the ones already listed.[/p][p][/p][p]If you want to know more about the post-release process generally works for us at Paradox Black, Trinexx did an excellent job at describing how our post-release support process usually works a few dev diaries ago, back in May when we released Khans of the Steppe: Dev Diary #171 - Post-Release Support. [/p][p][/p][p]Stay tuned for the coming updates! [/p][p]

Update 1.18.0.1

[p]Hello everyone! We're releasing a quick update today to address some issues reported to us since the release of 1.18.0 on Tuesday. We are currently working on a more substantial update to address more outstanding issues, but we believe it is important to push fixes for these particular issues as soon as possible. We're also aware of an issue regarding renaming titles in the current live version of the game. We have a fix for this problem, which will be deployed in an update coming next week. [/p]

[p]
[/p]
Update 1.18.0.1 Changelog

Bugfixes
• [p]Corrected the Song dynasty ruler in 1178 and fixed various genealogical irregularities in the ruling Zhao dynasty's ancestry.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed the flavorization of Korean rulers defaulting to inappropriate fallbacks.[/p]
 • [p]Temple Citadel Holdings can now be upgraded by non-Mandala rulers.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed some Korean heritages not being able to use the “Unite the Husamgeuk” decision.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed a rare startup crash relating to story cycles.[/p]
 • [p]Made the default candidates of the Meritocratic Regent Succession the same as for the Japanese Regency succession form, this makes the close family of the top ruler valid candidates.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed a game over caused by combining the Game Rule “Player Administrative Realms - Always” with playing the Japanese Ten'no.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed Shi Miyuan having the wrong gender.[/p]
 • [p]The Byzantine emperor will no longer stand holding a Hu in one of the budget events.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed a crash that happened on the conclusion screen of an activity if it was being kept open fairly long.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed a crash that can happen if you opened both the catalyst and participation windows of different sub-regions in the Silk Road situation window.[/p]
[p][/p]
Game Balance
• [p]Balanced Duke-tier income a bit down in bureaucratic governments (Admin/Celestial/Meritocratic), and Kingdom-tier a bit up, so it’s (almost) always a good upgrade.[/p]
 • [p]When an Escalated Peasant Faction resolves, the involved Counties will no longer immediately form another one and the peasants will stay pacified for a while.[/p]
 • [p]Tweaked/added modifiers for having an existing Escalated faction, so that the Counties don't flip-flop between that faction and Populist faction, and to no longer create the faction and disband it immediately.[/p]
 • [p]Added a catalyst for the Dynastic Cycle to force Emperors who hold less than 30% of the de-jure Hegemony into the Division Era, similar to losing the Mandate of Heaven (it is better for China to reform stronger, rather than to persist as a small scattered realm).[/p]
 • [p]Made the Dynastic Cycle ticking catalyst for holding less than 50% of China a bit stronger.[/p]
 • [p]Made AI rulers less likely to use the Hegemonic Consolidation CB, if they are not involved in the Dynastic Cycle situation, or culturally related to the Dynastic Cycle. If they have an aggressive AI archetype or are a conqueror, they have a higher chance.[/p]

Ambitious new Crusader Kings 3 expansion All Under Heaven is a win for Paradox, right when it needed it most

It's been a rough few months for Paradox, but it's looking like new Crusader Kings 3 DLC All Under Heaven might be the glimmer of light it desperately needed. Performance woes have driven the latest Stellaris expansion into the red on Steam, development on Civ rival Millenia was recently brought to a close, Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 launched to a rather damp reception, and the last CK3 add-on fell horribly short of expectations. But now its giant, Asia-themed expansion has just landed, perhaps the most ambitious for the grand strategy game yet, and the early signs are very good.
