Hello Everyone and welcome to another Heavy Duty Challenge dev diary!

This time we'll be looking at Unimog 416, the most popular truck of the two-axle category of Europa Truck Trial.

Unimog is a truck commonly used as an all-purpose vehicle to carry bucket loaders, hydraulic arms and other tools needed in various types of jobs. Hence the name of the truck, which comes from German "UNIversal-MOtor-Gerät", which may be translated into "a universal vehicle".

Due to its excellent off-road capabilities, Unimog is often used in difficult terrain and, for the same reason, in truck trial competitions like ETT. Unimog 416 is probably the most common vehicle in the championship right now - we've counted 22 teams driving this amazing truck and other models of the Unimog brand are driven, too.

In Heavy Duty Challenge, you’ll be able to drive Unimog 416, and with this dev diary, we would like to show you some of the trucks we’ve been working on. The trucks featured on the photos belong to teams Gangs of Sud Est and Team Mogli, the ones on the renders have been used by Team Plein Gaz and Team Dauphidrome.

Today I have something special for you - a sneak peek of locations you’ll be driving around in Heavy Duty Challenge. This one is also special for us, as it is the place of the first truck trial event we’ve ever attended.

I’m talking about Limberg, Niederösterreich in Austria. Limberg is a stone quarry located in the northern part of Austria, 70 km from Vienna and 440 km from our office in Krakow. Surrounded by crop fields and woods and near a lovely small village of Limberg. Over 1.5 km long and around 1 km wide in the widest part, it is a massive place where you can easily find space for the event to take place.

So what can you expect in the game? We’re recreating it from laser scans, tons of references made during the visit and photogrammetry materials of the exact rocks and structures from this place. How big will be the part of the quarry in the game? Huge! It will be almost the entire place. You will see the same buildings as in real life - maybe with some cosmetic changes to their positions. Sections will be located where they normally are, but you will find some challenges in the less frequently used parts of the venue, too. So a lot to discover!
