#7 HDC DevLog - The Team of the Month

Hi Truckers!

Source: https://www.europatrucktrial.org/team/?id=43

If it's the third Wednesday of the month, you know that it’s time for The Team of the Month!
The Team of June (it’s an instant association with the calendars in repair shops, isn’t it?) goes to Team Funke and their white Steyr. Both Leonie (co-driver) and Felix (driver) have been in the trials for a long time, as their father is Jurgen Funke - one of the organisers (you can find an interview with Jurgen and Łukasz Pleśniarowicz, Lead Designer of HDC here). They were the 2012 champions in the category of 3-axle trucks and stayed in the top 3 for the following years except 2017, but everyone can make a mistake once!

Their truck with the starting number 302 is an old Steyr, made by an Austrian manufacturer of trucks and tractors. It’s a 483 HP with a weight under 10t. I can’t tell you the precise weight, because when I asked Felix about it, he told me that it was over 10 tons, but he stripped it of all the unnecessary stuff. Then he showed me the interior. It had nothing left from the original, comfy interior of the Steyr - just bare steel plates, safety cage, dashboard controls without covers and an umbrella. I guess, you can never tell when it’s going to start raining during the event!

#6 HDC DevLog - Truck Trial Rules

Hi Everybody!
How are you? Are you ready to take a closer look at Truck Trials? Today, I want to present you with the rules by which you’ll play Heavy Duty Challenge. For those of you who are familiar with rules of Europa Truck Trials it will be reassuring that we use them heavily and for people new to the sport, it is a perfect occasion to learn about its basics.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDlt3hqMXAo

Some say that rules exist only to be broken and in Heavy Duty Challenge one of the rules is to not break a gate pole, so if you break it, you break a rule too! But to be honest, in this game you want to avoid breaking rules. In the real-life trials drivers try to avoid any mistakes, as they will give the team penalty points and the more you have, the lower is your position. It is the same in HDC. During the attempt on the section, if you touch or break a pole, change direction of driving, or stop for more than 15 seconds, the game will give you penalty points. You can also be disqualified for changing direction more than six times between two gates, so plan your route carefully.

If you reach the finish gate you are not safe yet. Any missed gates will cost you 100 points and probably push you down in the classification. And classification matters. After the whole event contestants will be sorted from the lowest number of penalty points to the highest and based on these standings the Championship points will be awarded, starting from 25 for the first place and going down with each next place. The last place awarded with only 1 CP is the 11th.

I hope that you will soon have a chance to try how the rules work for you and become a champion of Heavy Duty Challenge! For now, add the game to the Wishlist and leave a comment here - which of the teams is your favorite?

#4 HDC DevLog - how it all started

Hello All!

Nano Games Team

Today I want to tell you something about how it all started, so it’s time for a little walk down the memory line.
We started the Heavy Duty Challenge project as a team of seasoned developers, who had just released their 3rd game, Cityconomy. It was our first truck simulator and we loved working with this matter. It was exciting to work with brands like MAN and dedicated fans such as you.

When Cityconomy was out we decided to go deeper into the truck simulation and we started looking for an application for our advanced physics. In the meantime, our team had grown and we developed a redux version of our 2nd game, realising it for the Xbox.

After a short exploration of different jobs involving heavy duty vehicles, we turned our eyes to motorsports and came across the Truck Trial. And we knew that was it! We organised a couple of trips to Europa Truck Trial events and met the organizers and teams. It was a very warm reception and we were fully committed to this idea. And now, a few years later, we can finally show our work and tell you this story! So if you are as fond of the truck trial as we are, add the Heavy Duty Challenge to your Steam Wishlist, tell your friends about it and, in the comments, share your favorite memory of truck trials or gaming.

#3 Heavy Duty Challenge DevLog

What’s up, truckers?

We’re back for this week's presentation of the Team of the Month. It is my great pleasure to introduce you to the 401 HS-Schoch Hardox Truck Trial Team with Marcel Schoch as the driver and Johannes Stumpp as the co-driver. They’re the seven times champions of the Truck Trial in Category IV. Category IV means that their truck is a four axle or 8x8, if you will. And it is a Beast! Based on the MAN TGS 35.480, this iconic brown giant has over 470 HP and a 6.1m length between front and rear axle. In fact, I can fit under their mudguard without slouching at all and I’m 6ft tall.

If these parameters don’t impress you, let me add that Marcel and Johannes have a nitrous oxide injection system at their disposal, as well as a complicated mechanism of locking differentials between axles or even between sides of the truck, features that you’ll be able to test for yourself playing Heavy Duty Challenge. So add HDC to your Wishlist and tell us in the comments what excites you the most about Truck Trial?
