v0.28.0 - Upgradeable workstations, new adventure journal challenges, and more

In this update we've been working on the UI and onboarding of Necesse. While we still got a lot more stuff planned, we think that this update is a good step towards making Necesse easier to get into for new players.

This includes the new upgradeable workstations, anvils and alchemy tables. Each of these stations can now be upgraded to access better recipes, while maintaining the recipes from their previous upgrade.



All crafting stations now also has a categorized layout, making it easier to navigate between recipes.

The quest system has also been simplified. The elder now only has boss quests and the rewards from the old repeatable quests is now part of the new adventure journal challenge system.



This should make it easier to track down the specific rewards that you desire.

In the previous update we added carpets and paintings. In this update we've expanded a bit further on these items and their systems.

  • Carpets can now be placed below objects, such as beds/tables.
  • Paintings and wall lights can now be placed any wall, regardless of any object being in the way.
  • Some tables can now hold placeable lights, such as candles and torches.


Some of the other features and changes in this update include:

  • More ground clutter on biome surfaces.
  • New starter presets for the Elders house.
  • A new mount.
  • New settlement banners of war and peace.
  • Community voted weapon: The Seed Gun.
  • New items are now better highlighted in your inventory.

Carpets can now be placed under other objects.
Painting can now be placed on walls behind other objects.
Removed wall torches, wall lanterns and wall candles recipes.
Torches and candles can now be placed on fences, tables and walls.
Reworked crafting station UI, adding categories, easier searching and highlights.
Changed Advanced Workstation to Tungsten Workstation.
Reworked regular Workstation and Demonic Workstation to take up a 2x1 space.
Tweaked some of crafting station textures.
Reworked where a bunch of recipes appear and sorted them to be more intuitive.
Lowered the initial settlement recipe "craft until" count for items.
Increased the durability of waystones before breaking.
New items picked up into pouches will now highlight the pouch.
New items in inventory are now more visible with a green slot.
Removed the regular Elder quests, replacing them with journal challenges.
Elder quest rewards and journal challenges can now be bought again from the Elder himself.
The adventure journal will now remember what you had open.
The starting elder house is now randomly selected between 7 different presets.
Changed the wording of quickstack button tooltips.
Objects can now be placed on paths right next to water as well.
The tutorial has been slightly updated to include adventure journal and Elder quests.

[h3]Fixes:[/h3]
Fixed game attempting to load known invalid save files.
Fixed sunflowers not generating in the new plains biome.
Fixed armor, wigs, shirt and shoe items combining on dropped when they shouldn't.
Fixed mages not selling correct homestone and waystones when out on adventure parties.
Fixed roped mobs not snapping when teleporting to the roper.
Fixed mapshots sometimes causes crashes or corrupt images.
Fixed hunters spawning in cabins in the forest not being able to be recruited from the start.

[h3]Modding/servers:[/h3]
There are now several object layers with only the base one supporting collision and object entities.

And some other smaller changes and fixes.

v0.27.0 Hotfix 3 build 15916337

We've started working on the next update, and this will likely be the last hotfix before that. Unless we find something else important :)

Changes:
- Reverted LWJGL back to version 3.3.2 to fix some issues a few people were having.
- Updated community translations again.

Changes:
- Increased the chances of Traveling merchant spawning with animals for sale.
- Reworks boss drop rotation randomness in an attempt to make it more random between different players.
- Fixed cows never birthing any bulls.

This is also the first update where our two artists (who have been working on the graphics update for the past year) have joined us, which is also why the update is out quicker than usual. Anyway, back to the changes!

The new plains biome is only unique on the surface for now. Plains caves will come in a future update.

In this update we have added a bunch of new assets including paintings and carpets, that also now decorate the villages of Necesse. Alongside the chicken - rams, bulls and boars have also joined the fray to complement their female counterparts.



Some of the biomes have also received some new secret areas. Here is a small teaser for one of them :)



Husbandry has been reworked slightly. The traveling merchant will now sometimes bring animals to buy. For animals to reproduce, you now need one of each gender.



Most objects and tiles now show cracks as you start destroying them. Here is the aftermath of an iron bomb leaving cracks in the rocks.



Some of the other features and changes in this update include:

  • A lot of item stack sizes have been increased.
  • Animals in villages will now have to be bought if you want to bring them to your own island.
  • Killing animals in NPC villages will now make the villagers angry.
  • Added a bunch new food ingredients and items.
  • Added new and improved wire and banner textures.
  • Stabby bush has been nerfed slightly.

Water in caves will now become deeper much faster.
Home portals will now try to spawn a bit away from other portals.
Increased range on explosives slightly, but decreased damage done to objects and tiles at the edge.

Controller control tips will now no longer show if control tips are turned off in interface settings.

Fixed banners not showing when using some specific helmets.
Fixed not being able to see hair color selection when having the bald hairstyle selected.
Fixed high attack speed weapons hitting an attack speed limit because of game tick rate.
Fixed not showing shields when using it and holding a banner at the same time.
Fixed explosive modifier dealing a bit too much damage, especially when crawlmageddon zombies would explode.
Fixed settlers getting their orders cleared when sent on a mission/expedition.
