Apex Legends' new level cap draws from classic Call of Duty feature

Apex Legends' Season 14 update is almost upon us and Respawn Entertainment is giving this free-to-play battle royale's veteran players something to look forward to - and it's about time, too. Alongside the new Apex Legends character and Kings Canyon map changes, Respawn Entertainment is introducing a new, increased level cap to Apex Legends on all platforms. Interestingly, this new level cap isn't going to be as simple as Apex Legends players going from level 500 to level 600, 700, and beyond. No, this level cap increase is actually a Call of Duty-like prestige system in disguise.

Speaking to content creators and press during a pre-release Season 14 virtual panel, Apex Legends' experience design director Aaron Rutledge took a moment to explain what players can expect to see from the increased and expanded level progression coming to this battle royale with the Hunted update.

"In Season 14, we're going to expand the max level cap by looping through level one to 500 three additional times," Rutledge revealed. "[This is] essentially raising the level cap to 2,000." As you might imagine, going forward players can expect to see a different badge design for their banner every 500 levels. Respawn Entertainment may not admit it, but it's clearly a levelling system somewhat similar to the prestige levelling system we've seen in Call of Duty titles for years.

Apex Legends' Season 14 weapon changes switch up "easy to use" Wingman

We think it's fair to say that if there's one thing we're all looking out for when it comes to a fresh set of Apex Legends patch notes, it's the weapon changes - and Season 14 isn't any different. It doesn't matter if you're using a character at the top of our Apex Legends tier list or the bottom, landing your shots is what's going to win you your next game. While we don't know all the information just yet, Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that it's introducing huge weapon changes in Apex Legends' Season 14 to both the Wingman and the Spitfire.

What are these huge weapon changes? Well, during a pre-season press event, senior game designer Eric Canavese confirmed that both of these weapons are going to be using different ammo types moving forward. If you want to use the Wingman in Season 14, you're going to need to use Sniper Ammo and Sniper Magazines. If you want to use the Spitfire, you're going to need to stock up on Light Ammo and keep your eyes peeled for a Light Magazine.

If you're worried about these changes, you shouldn't be. Canavese explained that these changes are primarily aimed at altering the ammo economy in-game right now, noting specifically that this update shouldn't alter "the feel and the damage, and the handling, of that traditional Wingman we've all come to know and love."

Apex Legends Season 14 finally removes Self Revive from battle royale

We know Vantage is the star of the show when it comes to Apex Legends' Hunted update, but there are a lot of important changes coming to Respawn Entertainment's free-to-play battle royale with the Season 14 update. One of the most important ones, which could slip under the radar when you look at the latest Apex Legends patch notes, is this: Apex Legends' development team is finally removing Self Revive from the game.

Yes, that's right - Self Revive is outta here and we couldn't be happier. In a pre-release press event, senior game designer Eric Canavese revealed that there would be two important changes made to gold-rarity equipment perks in the coming title update. Firstly, a Gold Backpack is no-longer going to offer players the Guardian Angel perk. Instead, it will feature a brand new gameplay perk: Deep Pockets.

With this rare piece of equipment equipped, using Deep Pockets, players will be able to carry more large healing items in-game. This means that, moving forward, you will be able to three-stack both the Med Kit and Shield Battery in your inventory. In addition to this, you will be able to stack two Phoenix Kit items. This, of course, is going to help players individually - but, it could also introduce a new level of coordination between squad mates and encourage resource sharing in-game.

Respawn wants cross progression in Apex Legends "sooner rather than later”, working on in-game gifting

A vast new sweep of information regarding the future of Apex Legends has been revealed, via an early press and influencer briefing we attended last week. Alongside multiple reveals regarding Season 14 and significant changes to Kings Canyon, we’ve learnt more about Respawn’s long term goals via a Q&A – including info on cross progression, ranked changes, and in-game gifting.

These further out additions haven’t got any date attributed to them yet, instead being tinkered with in the background. According to senior game designer Eric Canavese: “We are actively working on gifting to other players right now, but we want to make sure it’s something people enjoy, something that doesn’t feel grindy”.

On Cross Progression, Evan stated: “We’re actively working on cross progression, but there’s no release date on it. The game wasn’t built with it in mind, which makes it complicated. But I hear you, and I want cross progression too. It’s something we’re definitely working on – we want it sooner than later.”
