Apex Legends devs reveal what drew the Downed Beast to Storm Point

Apex Legends is full of strange secrets and things are only getting more mysterious with Season 13 and the Saviors update. One of the biggest mysteries at the moment is centred on Storm Point's new Downed Beast POI. Fans want to know what-exactly drew the monstrous sea creature to shore and what implications this has for the future. So, ahead of the Apex Legends Season 13 release date, we asked Respawn Entertainment what exactly drew the Downed Beast to Storm Point - and the answer wasn't what we expected.

In the opening moments of the Apex Legends Saviors Gameplay Trailer, the narrator expresses that "we may never have the answers" to burning questions like "where did the creature come from" and "why did it attack". However, speaking to The Loadout, gameplay director Steve Ferreira has revealed that the giant sea monster was drawn to Storm Point by its stomach and the hunt for "tasty leviathans".

We know that sounds hard to believe, but that's the answer we got - and it makes sense when you look at the teasers Respawn Entertainment released in the build-up to the reveal of Apex Legends' Saviors update.

Apex Legends looking to "remix" LTMs like Control for future seasons

Apex Legends' Season 13 update is almost here and it's shaping up to be another stacked update - with a new legend, a major map update, and the Ranked Reloaded changes headlining proceedings. One thing that seems to be missing from Respawn Entertainment's plans, though, is limited-time modes (also known as LTMs). Fear not, though, Apex Legends players - speaking to The Loadout, game director Steve Ferreira has revealed that LTMs are still very-much the focus for the developer - and a fan-favourite LTM is going to return in the second half of the Saviors season!

When asked about Respawn's plans for Apex Legends LTMs in Season 13 and beyond, Ferreira explained that "something [players] are going to see is the continued addition of LTMs" and "remixes of past LTMs".

Elaborating further on this point, he expressed that one "focus of the team right now" is "trying out and experimenting a few different things and ways to play" through past Apex Legends' LTMs. So, while we might not be getting anything drastically new in the future, players can still expect new experiences from Apex Legends going forward.

Apex Legends' Storm Point IMC Armory feature is third party proof

If you've played Apex Legends before, or any battle royale game for that matter, you'll know how painful it is to be 'third-partied' during a gunfight. There's nothing worse than being on the cusp of victory to find yourself being shot in the back by an unseen assailant. Apex Legends does give you ways to combat this - Gibby's dome shield is a particularly useful tool to have - but it's largely a fact of life that, at some point, you're going to be third-partied. Well, until now. Speaking to press, Samantha Kalman, senior game designer at Respawn Entertainment, has revealed that Storm Point's IMC Armory locations are actually going to be third-party proof.

We know that this is hard to believe, but it's true. When you head into one of Storm Point's four IMC Armory locations to loot, "you're protected from being third-partied", according to Kalman. However, this comes at a cost - as you might expect.

Players looking to loot these locations are going to have to lock themselves in and weather an intense minute-long storm of close-quarters combat with waves of deadly Spectres - automated infantry robots you may recognise from Titanfall.

Apex Legends season 13 lets you duke it out in the body of a giant dead monster

Apex Legends has shown off some gameplay for season 13, giving us a look at Newcastle in action, and revealing a new part of the map that's literally the dead body of a giant creature.

Respawn Entertainment released a cinematic trailer last week officially revealing the newest character Newcastle, but the developer has now given us a look at the man in action, as well as a big change that's coming to Storm Point. In the cinematic trailer, we saw the Legends taking down a giant, kaiju-like creature. Well, it turns out that part of Storm Point is now that thing's carcass, just to spice things up a bit.

According to Polygon who attended a media preview last week, lead level designer Jeff Shaw said it was designed to be "a big, stuff, loot piñata." As well as something to make it more of a competitive map. "We really wanted to do this additively, without removing anything that we felt was important," added Shaw. While it wasn't clear if the creature would be some kind of player vs environment task in the first trailer, it's now confirmed to definitely just be a map change.
