Top Apex Legends pros want kill points removed from ranked

Two high-profile Apex Legends pro players have tweeted explanations about how they would change the game's ranked mode in order to more fairly reward players. Complexity's Ryan 'Reptar' Boyd and TSM's Eric 'Snip3down' Wrona both took to social media to explain that they feel kills are rewarded too highly for players trying to climb the Apex Legends ranks.

"Winning should be the number one priority, [removing kill points] would actually make the quality of games A+ in comparison to what they are now," says Snip3down. The ALGS player also added that players who "want to frag out" and play more aggressive styles can play the new Apex Legends Arenas mode.

His tweet was in response to Reptar's tweet, in which shared his belief that ranked would be perfect if Respawn was to "just take out kill points." The original ranked ruleset focused much more on rewarding placement over kills, but this was later changed (at the request of the community) to add extra points for up to six kills.

Apex Legends team Avangard stripped of GLL title two weeks after victory

Two weeks after the culmination of the GLL Masters Spring Apex Legends tournament, EU winner Avangard has had its title taken away because two of its players violated the GLL rules. The players in question are Nikita 'Diffauss' Gainitdinov and Igor 'G0_Zh' Zhukov, who GLL found have several banned game accounts in Apex Legends.

Many people are assuming that Avangard players were banned for cheating, but Apex Legends' reporting options also include toxicity and abuse, so it is currently unknown exactly why the players were banned. However, the banned accounts themselves are in breach of the GLL rules, as the tournament organiser's investigation found that the players "have several banned game accounts on Apex Legends in the last year," suggesting recent bad behaviour.

GLL reiterated its rules in a statement posted to Twitter, explaining the rule in full: "Players with Apex Legends bans on any accounts within two (2) years are not eligible to compete in any of the tournaments hosted by GLL." The tournament organiser's post-tournament investigation found the Avangard players had broken this rule, and the team was therefore disqualified.

The first Apex Legends Arenas tournament was dominated by the L-Star

NRG streamer Lindsey 'LuluLuvely' hosted the first high-profile Apex Legends Arenas tournament live on Twitch this week, which saw regular ALGS pros team up with some of the biggest streamers for Lulu's Throwdown 2.

The rules for teams were simple: one pro, one streamer, and one woman, with only one player who could have ever been a finalist in an official EA tournament. Day one of the tournament took place on May 13, and saw teams take to Arenas to vie for supremacy in a win race. The second day will see teams take to battle royale mode in a more traditional tournament style.

Due to the fact that Arenas doesn't have private match functionality at present, teams raced to register as many wins in the new mode as possible within a four-hour time limit. This led to most teams ending up queueing against each other in exciting 3v3s, but some matches saw the stacked squads roll over unsuspecting opponents who were not competing.

Orgless Apex Legends team Nessy signs with new team for ALGS Championship

Nessy, one of the top Apex Legends teams in the EU region, has signed a contract with an organisation. The Nessy players announced the move on social media, but they are remaining tight-lipped about which team has snapped them up.

Nessy is widely regarded as one of the best competitors in the region, and up there with the best in the world, but the players have had a rocky time with organisations. Jake 'jmw' Walters, Martin 'Graceful' Wongprom, and Rasmus 'maydeelol' Zettergren played for Triumph until the organisation released its whole roster and ceased competition in Apex Legends. The players stayed together as Nessy for five months, before Graceful and maydeelol signed to North's all-Scandinavian roster in December 2020.

The group reformed Nessy in February 2021, after North's dramatic collapse. Since then, the team has reportedly fended off contracts with big orgs, holding out for something that suited them perfectly. The group is highly sought-after, as Nessy hasn't finished outside of the top five in any ALGS tournament this year, with highlights being a second-place finish in ALGS Winter Circuit 2 and also grabbing silver in the GLL Masters Spring tournament earlier this month.
