Apex Legends lore video dives into Pathfinder's troubled past

Apex Legends has revealed more background about everyone's favourite robot, Pathfinder, in the latest Stories from the Outlands lore video. We see Pathfinder's unfortunate upbringing on the planet Malta. After being fired from multiple jobs because of his clumsiness and general errors, he was looking for his calling in life.

That's when he happened across ex-cop Lieutenant Maldera, who is now a prison guard. After yet another mishap while serving in the prison canteen and the robot is falsely accused of murder, the unlikely duo are forced into each others' lives.

As Maldera interrogates Pathfinder, he delves into the robot's data banks, but finds out more than he bargained for. Pathfinder seems to have stumbled across mishap after mishap, crime after crime, including one specific incident involving Dr Nox - better known as Caustic - who is presumed dead.

Apex Legends Global Series sees huge rise in Crypto usage

Picking your Apex Legends main is a difficult decision, and your best option is usually to pick a character who you enjoy playing with. It's just not going to work if you hate the way that Caustic speaks or you're trying to play Wraith with a sniper loadout.

But when it comes to competitive matches, there are some legends that are simply better than others - it's the reason we have our Apex Legends tier list. Wraith is the best legend, and the likes of Octane, Loba, and Crypto are... Not. This year we've seen some interesting trends of Gibraltar rising the ranks and Bloodhound receiving huge buffs, but legends rarely move more than a few places up or down at a time.

However, analysis of the Apex Legends Global Series Playoffs this weekend has revealed some very interesting statistics about which legends were used the most. The data for North America and EMEA regions was analysed, and the biggest revelation was that the seldom seen Crypto was picked in over 25% of teams.

Apex Legends players have figured out how to slide forever

If there's one thing that sets Apex Legends apart from other battle royales, it's the sliding mechanic. There's no better feeling than getting to the crest of a hill knowing you'll be able to slide all the way down again.

Like a child with a sled waking up to a snow-covered street, the excitement of sliding around King's Canyon, World's Edge, and Olympus is comparable only to getting a team wipe with a Mozambique. Okay, maybe we're overhyping it, but sliding is great - and it's mechanically important, too, decreasing the size of your hitbox and giving you a small speed boost.

However, as is so often the case with competitive games - players have found a way to abuse the mechanic. Reddit user u/KremitOG found that rebinding their keys allowed their character to slide forever without losing momentum. The exploit is based on the fact that if you are sprinting forwards and tap to toggle crouch on and off quickly, you'll be able to get some small speed boosts.
