Respawn stands by controversial Apex Legends ban after community outrage

Over the last 24 hours, the Apex Legends community has come to a head over what seemingly appeared to be an incorrect player ban following a report by a prominent streamer.

Reddit user 'KongoBoom' posted to the Apex Legends subreddit on October 21 decrying Respawn for banning him after being matched with a cheater who was terrorising prominent streamers. The original post has now been removed (you'll see why soon) but it was titled: "Killing streamers got me banned" - and it gained a lot of traction.

The story goes that NRG's popular streamer 'LuLuLovely' was killed by a blatantly cheating Gibraltar player. As a result, she reported the incident to a member of the Apex Legends security team, along with video evidence. While the Gibraltar was quite clearly in the wrong and was of course banned, his Bloodhound teammate, KongoBoom, was also shown in the video and subsequently banned as well.

A new Apex Legends glitch turns the Sentinel sniper rifle fully automatic

Sniper rifles often dominate shooting games - and for good reason. We all remember that bit in Saving Private Ryan when their sniper shoots the other sniper through the eyehole, right? They're brutal weapons, but that can sometimes lead to them being overpowered in video games. Even Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone recently had to patch the SP-R sniper because it was too strong, and Apex Legends is no different.

The number of Charge Rifle beams you see shooting across the map are like deadly orange chemtrails with the sole aim of levelling up Evo Shields. The Triple Take can function as a shotgun as well as an effective sniper, and the Kraber one-shots opponents - if you can find it.

However, the Sentinel has fallen short in recent months. Its 70 damage doesn't make up for the massive recoil and long reload times, so many players simply walk on by if they see one lying on the ground. However, all that has changed with a new bug in the latest Season 6 update, the Aftermarket Event.

The adorable story of Apex Legends' odd lunchtime release

Do you remember Apex Legends' release? Sure, February 2019 seems like a decade ago now, but it was a very exciting time for fans of both Titanfall and the battle royale genre. Apex is now in its seventh season, but lead programmer Jon Shiring shared a heartwarming tale that explains the game's odd lunchtime release and encapsulates Respawn's family values.

Shiring was preparing to release Apex Legends in the morning of February 4. His role would mean he oversaw operations and online services for the game - which, obviously, is crucial for the basic functions of a battle royale.

However, Shiring was due to attend a hearing regarding the adoption of his daughter around the same time. Unfortunately the court was unaware of the release date of Apex Legends - after all, it was a secret game at this point. He received his court appointment in the post, and to his disappointment, he was due in at 10.00 on February 4 - the exact time he was meant to be overseeing the launch.
