Apex Legends is finally giving everyone what they want: a Team Deathmatch mode

Apex Legends Season 16 is on the way, bringing along with it a highly requested game mode, but no new character.

For a long while now, fans have been asking for a Team Deathmatch mode, and if you're one such fan you'll be happy to hear that Apex Legends 16th season will be adding just that. It's quite the romantic affair, as the new mode will be dropping on February 14 (the perfect time to play some Apex with your special someone), alongside Revelry, the name of this newest season.

"We’ve been hearing the community ask for this one for a while," game mode designer Marty Wong said of Team Deathmatch (thanks, Kotaku). The mode won't be any different from any other version of the popular mode found in a plethora of shooters: it puts six players against each other, if you die you respawn fast, and whichever team hits 30 kills first wins the round. Take two rounds, and the match is yours. Simple!

Apex Legends' Season 16 map changes bring back fan-favourite POI

Respawn Entertainment's battle royale shooter Apex Legends is four years old, if you can believe it, and staring down what could be its' biggest update yet. Dubbed Revelry, Season 16 is a celebration - of sorts - that is also refreshing the legend meta in lieu of a new character. However, the Apex Legends Season 16 map changes are what we're here to talk about; they're very exciting. Not only is Respawn Entertainment peppering anniversary decorations across every environment, it's also bringing back a fan-favourite POI to every battle royale map in rotation: the Mirage Voyage.

Yes, you're reading that right, the Mirage Voyage is back. Now named the "Mirage à trois", Apex Legends' lead map designer Jeff Shaw has confirmed that the development team has "brought back everyone's favourite party boat" with "a new dance floor and... a golden Mer-Mirage masthead".

In the past, battle royale players have found themselves able to drop into this POI on King's Canyon and World's Edge; however, these appearances were few and far between and it's safe to say that quite a few players have been calling for this particular POI to return.

Apex Legends' Ranked map rotation is expanding in Season 16 update

Be it World's Edge or Storm Point, every Apex Legends player has their preference when it comes to the game's map rotation. If you've been hoping for some variety in Apex Legends Season 16, then the next update is a key moment for ranked players. Apex Legends ranked will be ditching its current map rotation method, as developer Respawn is intending to take notes from the game's standard battle royale playlists.

Apex Legends still "not planning" to use Mobile content in main game

Apex Legends' Season 16 update is almost here and, for the first time in forever, Respawn Entertainment isn't introducing a new legend to the battle royale's growing roster of playable characters. This makes quite a bit of sense, when you think about what Respawn Entertainment is doing to refresh the legend meta, but it also coincides near-cosmically with the closure of the Apex Legends mobile game. With both Fade and Rhapsody seemingly ready to go, you might agree with the sentiment that Apex Legends' exclusive mobile characters need the console treatment. However, in a pre-release Season 16 preview event, Apex Legends' game director Steve Ferreira has made it clear that battle royale players shouldn't expect to see mobile exclusive content in Apex Legends anytime soon.

Discussing this during a short Q&A session with the media, Ferreira expressed that Respawn Entertainment doesn't plan to introduce any mobile exclusive content to Apex Legends.

"The content we created in [Apex Legends] Mobile was intended for one type of experience and HD is a different type of experience," Ferreira says - with the term "HD" referring to the main Apex Legends game you see on PC, PlayStation consoles, and Xbox consoles.

Apex Legends' Team Deathmatch brings familiar fun to battle royale

Respawn Entertainment has been unfairly berated quite a bit over the years by the Apex Legends player base for not listening to their wishes when it comes to new content, but the Season 16 update really does seem to be giving the players everything they're asking for. From a brand new Apex Legends class system to a brand new assault rifle, there really is a lot to look forward to. However, the one stand-out addition that we're really excited about is Team Deathmatch. That's right, Apex Legends is finally getting a TDM mode - and it's bringing some familiar fun to this battle royale shooter.

Detailing just what fans can expect when they jump into a game of Team Deathmatch on Apex Legends during a press event ahead of the Apex Legends Season 16 release date, game mode designer Marty Wong has explained that this iteration of the popular game mode "should be pretty familiar for most people" - but, that doesn't mean it won't be a lot of fun.

Specifically, Apex Legends' Team Deathmatch is going to be a 6v6, fast-respawn mode with loadouts - quite a lot like Control - that is built around a best-of-three round format. What do we mean by this? Well, each team of six will need to earn 30 kills to win a round and, then, win two rounds to win the game.
