Apex Legends will keep tap-strafing, at least for now

A couple of weeks ago, Respawn Entertainment said they were going to get rid of tap-strafing in Apex Legends, but now it seems they've changed their minds. Tap-strafing is a movement exploit that allows players to keep their momentum after slide-jumping, letting them make speedier turns than they should. Unfortunately for Respawn, they say getting rid of this tech has some "unexpected side effects", so tap-strafing gets to stay in the game, for now.

Apex Legends tap-strafing removal pushed back for further testing

'Tap-strafing' has really been the buzzword in the Apex Legends community over the last couple of weeks. The movement mechanic, which allowed PC players to make sharp and immediate turns mid-air to bamboozle opponents, has been at the centre of a debate after Respawn announced that it would be patching out the mechanic in an imminent update.

While the dust has settled on the tap-strafing debate, Respawn has today announced that it will not be removing tap-strafing as soon as it had hoped. The developer says it has encountered "unexpected side effects" when testing its fix for tap-strafing, and says it is "delaying its planned change to a later patch".

It appears that in trying to remove tap-strafing, other existing balanced and legitimate movement mechanics were being impacted. With Respawn describing movement as "sacred" in Apex Legends, it doesn't want to cause any collateral damage with this tap-strafing patch. "After further testing, we've concluded we need to take more time to get this right to make sure related movement mechanics aren't caught in the cross-fire," Respawn explains.

"It feels like the community is really excited for the start of this new season and is itching to get back into competition," Nelson says. "It's been what's felt like a fairly long offseason - and longer for some than others if they didn't take part in the [Year 1] ALGS Championship. So I think people are really excited to just start competing again.

Apex Legends Pathfinder bug doubles the length of your ziplines

You all remember that wild Pathfinder zipline bug from the early days of Apex Legends, right? You know, the one where you could traverse pretty much half the map with one usage of Path's ultimate ability? Well, an Apex Legends player has found a new glitch that can give you much longer ziplines once again.

While it's nowhere near as broken as the original Pathfinder bug, Apex Legends player 'RossBobSquirrel' has found a new method to making extra long ziplines. Pathfinder ziplines are limited to a maximum length of 100 metres, however this RossBobSquirrel claims that this trick can more than double that. In his video below, he manages to create a 230 metre zipline that spans from Fragment East to Fragment West on World's Edge.

So how do you do it? Well, first you have to pop your ultimate and hover the placement indicator over an eligible spot (i.e. within the 100 metre limit). Then, cancel your ultimate, and begin running further away from that point in a straight line. Be sure that you can still see the spot where you had your placement indicator and that there isn't anything obstructing your line.
