Dune Awakening's new patch may collapse your Pentashields if you're not careful

Dune Awakening has had a pretty good run so far since launching in June. Despite a slightly more bumpy road in recent weeks, the reviews for the MMO are still sitting at 'mostly positive,' with a 75% rating from Steam users. But the upcoming patch is set to shake some things up, adding new content, balancing, and tweaks, including a bug fix that might collapse your Pentashield. That's not all; you can test out the new patch for yourself right now.

Dune Awakening's devs are testing a patch that'll let you deposit all of your blood and should help tackle ornithopter griefing

The next big patch for Dune: Awakening's now out there via Steam testing client, as devs Funcom look to test out its various tweaks before pressing go on full deployment next month. If you've been desperately screaming for the ability to slop out a bunch of blood and/or water at once, or have recently be chased by a swarm of griefy ornithopters, this is the patch for you.

In fact, the devs make clear that they'd really prefer it if you were to dedicate the bulk of your two-week-long patch testing time to those two things in particular. They're also turning off taxes and sandstorms, the latter very much being the tax equivalent of the natural world, for the first week so bases won't be at risk.

Dune Awakening disables Family Sharing as exploits see it "abused frequently"

Dune Awakening is doing a fairly decent job at cementing its place in the MMO scene so far - a scene that's notoriously hard to break into. However, as with all online multiplayer games, it's got an army of cheaters and bad actors to fight back against. In its efforts to make things fair for all players, developer Funcom has just revealed that it'll be disabling Family Sharing on Steam as it works to eliminate a rampant exploit. Even though it has already banned "hundreds of players" and wiped out lots of illegitimately earned Solaris, the studio says it has to remove the feature while it works out a way to permanently eliminate the exploit.

An Update to Family Sharing and Recent Efforts

[p]Sleepers, [/p][p]We would like to share a quick update on cheats and exploits and inform you that we’re temporarily disabling Family Sharing. [/p][p] [/p][p]As soon as these issues started, we began gathering reports and data to work on fixes and preventative measures. [/p][p]Over the past weeks, we have deployed multiple hotfixes that addressed several exploits. [/p][p]We are monitoring the situation and will continue our efforts as needed. [/p][p] [/p][p]In addition to fixing the causes, we have also taken some direct action against players who used exploits, banning hundreds of players and removing large amounts of exploited Solaris from the game. [/p][p]These efforts are currently ongoing: our investigations continue and our banhammer has more work to do. [/p][p] [/p][p]We are aware of some other issues caused by cheats and we have fixes in the works that we aim to implement in the next patches. In the meantime, we will continue to take action on accounts you reported via the Request Help option in the game. [/p][p] [/p][p]Last but not least, we are temporarily disabling Family Sharing as part of our efforts as we have unfortunately seen this feature abused frequently. We apologize to our players who legitimately used this feature. We are actively working on changes that will allow us to re-enable the system as soon as possible. While we don’t have an ETA to share at the moment, we are aiming to implement those changes within this year. We will let you know as soon as we have a date. [/p][p] [/p][p]Thank you all for your reports, cooperation, and your continued patience and understanding. [/p]
