Gaining "Boost" in Terra Invicta

As part of E3, we're revealing details on how space exploration begins in Terra Invicta.

Terra Invicta is a game where the ultimate goal requires leaving Earth. The alien invasion force is in the outer Solar System, and any victory over them will require constructing a large fleet.

But every game begins on Earth. You must work behind the scenes to gain influence over Earth's nations, and then harness this influence to begin the resource intensive process of constructing your first ships. While later construction is best done through mining and building outside Earth's gravity, the crucial first step lies on Earth. You must obtain "boost", a representation of space launch capability, both from acquiring significant real-world space exploration sites across the globe, as well as encouraging new investments into space exploration:

Grand Strategy in our Solar System

From the creators of Long War, Terra Invicta asks you to choose one of seven ideological factions, each with a unique approach to dealing with an alien invasion. You will lead your faction to gain control over Earth’s nations, expand across the Solar System, and defeat enemy fleets in 3D tactical combat.

After securing a base of support on Earth, players will take humanity’s first steps in colonizing our Solar System. Terra Invicta includes over 300 asteroids, moons, and planets, all orbiting exactly as they do in our real world, creating a strategic map that is in constant motion.

As part of E3, we're revealing details on how the Solar System is modeled. Here's a screenshot of a fleet plotting a course to a low Mars orbit, showing the new orbit trails:

Terra Invicta takes XCOM and turns it into an Expanse-style grand strategy game

Take XCOM, and imagine a more realistic scenario where humanity had plenty of warning and global politics were less conveniently unified. Add in Newtonian physics and, hey presto, Terra Invicta is (probably) the grand strategy game you've been waiting for.

It's being developed by the creators of XCOM's The Long War mods - Pavonis Interactive - and the team has completely deconstructed XCOM's 'alien invasion' scenario to build a top-down high strategy game where defeating (or embracing) the aliens is a decades-long endeavour. The clandestine organization trope is maintained as the player assumes the role as the head of one of several factions, each with their own agenda, victory conditions, and overall stance on the looming alien presence.

The meat of the game involves competing for influence and control over world governments, with the geopolitics roughly matching the present day. While conventional militaries and assets are present, this isn't a Paradox-style game where you're trying to paint the map your colour. You must work to control these governments from within to gain access to their resources and, more importantly, their space programs.
