A note about the ending
Players who have finished my previous games will know I’m a fan of twists, and Memoirs is no different. This ending will be my most complicated yet, and I’ve endeavored to tie up almost all plot points… but some will be open to interpretation.
Towards the very end of the game, there will be a series of revelations that seem to come out of left field, unless you’ve paid very close attention to some relatively small details.
It reveals a deeply held secret, perhaps the biggest secret of the setting… and I’m not too sure if I’ve shown my cards too soon. It reminds me of a certain de-canonized scene from Kentarou Miura’s Berserk (a massive influence on my work) that the author later thought revealed too much.
But… being three games deep into the series, it’s about time I showed what the stakes are.
Overall I have to say I’m very happy with the ending for Memoirs. I have to admit, sometimes endings are a bit of a surprise for me too, and they don’t always necessarily land the way I had planned.
So, while this game may not sell millions of copies (or even get a spot on any best seller list), I’m glad to have made the journey. To those who have come along with me, my deepest thanks, and hopes for more on the horizon.
