The Monster Breeder News

Monster Breeding - Magic Field

Magic Field is a powerful treatment method to manipulate the traits of juvenile creatures even before hatching. It requires to purchase one of the six unique magic scrolls and build Hatchling's Cabin. The overuse of this type of treatment decreases fertility and causes abomination illness or even death.

Magic Field efficiency can be enhanced using Potion of Magic in blood infusion apparatus at the same time.

Magic scrolls available to use
  • Scroll of Strength - increasing strength
  • Scroll of Agility - improving agility
  • Scroll of Endurance - enhancing endurance
  • Scroll of Energy - increasing amount of energy
  • Scroll of Vigor - gaining health points
  • Scroll of Resistance - developing magic resistance

Monster Breeding - Runestones

Runestones are essential tools to create more advanced monster hybrids. There are six unique runestones in the game to customize the treatments of juvenile creatures.

Some of them can enhance existing resistance to fire, frost, or shock; others can tame wild beasts, heal abomination illness, or increase the litter size. The player needs to build Hatchling's Cabin and purchase runestones to be able to set up treatment.

Kickstarter Campaign!

The Monster Breeder is coming to Kickstarter in early February!

At this stage of the development process, I try to get some additional resources. The coding work is about 90% done, the demo is reworked and now I am focusing on graphics. I plan to raise funds to contract professional 3D artist to make better quality monster models, animations, and textures.

Monster Breeding - Blood Infusion

Blood/potion infusion is an essential method to create more powerful monsters. The player can increase the creature's strength, endurance, agility, and lifespan, improve temperature tolerance, and decrease fear of other classes of monsters.

There are three levels of blood infusion equipment in the game.

Blood Infusion Tool - a basic device that makes it possible to infuse insectoid, reptile, or carnivora blood into any juvenile monster. A very simple tool with one slot only, and can not infuse potions. Not possible to use it on eggs.

Combined Infusion Set - can infuse blood and potion into juvenile monsters at the same time, and has two apertures.

Grand Infusion Apparatus - this most advanced device can be used on eggs too, making it possible to start treatments as early as possible. It can combine three types of blood or potions to maximize the effect.

Potions to infuse:

Growth Potion - increases the strength and size of a juvenile creature on use
Swiftness Potion - increases the agility of a juvenile monster on use
Endurance Potion - increases the endurance of a monster
Rune Potion - enhances the efficiency of any Runestones
Potion of Magic - enhances the efficiency of any Magic Field applied to creatures
Potion of Blood - enhances the efficiency of Blood Infusion

Combat Demo has been updated!

The combat demo has been reworked. It contains a single fight with two teams of choice. The player can set 3 combat rules:
  • Equipment - fight with standard or custom equipment
  • Potions - combat potions are allowed or prohibited
  • Pitfalls - pitfalls and arcane circles are active or inactive

New Arena

The arena is smaller but looks better and has arcane circles and pitfalls in it. Arcane circles can restore/drain mana and energy, can invoke fear or courage, and also capable of boosting or hindering characters. Pitfalls are useful to cover your flanks or deploy archers and sorcerers behind them.

New human character models

Warriors, archers, and sorcerers have more detailed 3D models, higher resolution textures, and some new animations.

New monsters

There are three Insectoid and three reptile class monsters with unique skills in the combat demo. The monster's 3D models and animations do not represent the early access release, but this was the best I could do at the moment.

New combat abilities

Webbing attack - a webbed enemy can not move or attack and loses energy. Stronger characters can get out of the web quicker.
Ricochet arrows - arrows ricochet when hit hard chitin armor (insectoid passive skill)
Dodge arrows - monster can dodge arrows (passive skill)
Poison skin - attacking monster can be poisoned if the bite is successful (25% chance, passive skill)
Spiny skin - attacking monster can be damaged if the bite is successful (25% chance, passive skill)
Poison spit - inflict poison from 3 hex range
Fire spit - inflict fire damage from 3 hex range
Life steal - regain 3 HP after every successful attack (passive skill)
Energy steal - regain 5 energy after every successful attack, defender loses the same amount of energy (passive skill)
Defensive stance - enhance parry and dodge chance by 25%, improve vision field to 5, increase the number of counter-attacks by 3, restore more energy (human only)
Disengagement - avoid the attack of opportunity by rolling to an adjacent hex (human only)
Encourage - decrease fear of multiple friendly human characters (human only)

New combat magics

Energize - restores the energy of a friendly character
Mana drain - steal mana from an enemy sorcerer
Arcane skin - increases physical protection
Invoke fear - increases the fear of an enemy character

New combat potions

Potion of Strength - increases strength
Potion of Courage - decreases fear
Resist Frost Potion - provides frost protection
Resist Magic Potion - provides magic protection

New weapon poisons (archers)

Fever Poison - causes energy loss
Frostwind Venom - causes agility loss
