Tiny Update

Hello wonderful people!

As announced earlier this month, the open beta is now available for all of you, who own the game.

A little recap on what this beta is:
we are upgrading the game engine to Godot 4 which will allow us to add more content features while also improving the overall stability and performance of the game.

The primary reason why we upgrade this 4 year old game at all is the absolute mess that the code base grew into over the years which makes adding new content and features a real struggle.
The biggest features that were limited by the current game engine is by far the support for animations and crossplatform support.

With the new game engine we can finally add animations and also offer Steam Cloud saves to share your progress and saves across your devices, including a native Linux version and SteamDeck support.

The current beta stage has many of the existing features already working but some parts are still WIP, so here is a little overview of things to try in this beta:
working features
• play the base game content, with choices and path branching
 • save/load your game progress
 • unlock achievements
 • change settings from the main menu
 • use the Roadmap to replay parts of the game (WIP but mostly works)
 • English translation
WIP
• skip/rollback dialogue
 • Gallery
 • change settings during gameplay
 • input remapping (controller support)
 • translation support (German, Brasilian Portuguese)
 • Steam Workshop integration (for more translations)
 • DLC support (works on the free Halloween2020 DLC already)

The above lists are just the main features so please expect some things to still behave a bit... unexpected.
tl;dr
Cool stuff, but how can you play the beta?!

You can activate the open beta with these 3 easy steps:
 1. go into the Midnight Ride properties

 2. select the Betas menu
 3. from this dropdown, select the "open_beta" (if you don't see this option, restart your Steam)

 4. close the properties menu and update your game
 5. enjoy

When all is set and done we would really appreciate feedback about this beta over here in the forums

Upcoming Release

Hello wonderful people!

It's been a while since our last public post about the upcoming final DLC for Midnight Ride...
and yeah... about that:

While Nidma and Celtic are busy finalizing and polishing the content for the "Mad Scientist" DLC, I took on the task of porting the game to a new game engine. The limitations of the current game engine (GameMaker Studio) are the main reason why our game has no animations for example.

Primarily for that reason and because it was a good opportunity to implement a few other needed changes like cloud saves for device compatibility (Steam Deck etc) I decided to rebuild the game from scratch in Godot 4.

The end result of this rebuild will not look too much different to the current version apart from the benefits of running on a more modern and capable game engine which will allow us to add some much requested additional content.

In the near future there will be a playable test version for owners of the game on the beta channel here on Steam and I hope to get some feedback from all of you awesome people.

So stay tuned for more information very soon!

Update on the Release Date of the next DLC

Hey guys, hope you're doing awesome! We've got some news about the game update we've all been hyped for, and we wanted to fill you in.

The update we were aiming to drop by the end of the year is hitting a speed bump. As most of you know we're a small team of 3 people, and this year was rough on us and it impacted our capacity to create.

Ever since we've started this project we kept our releases yearly, but two of us had main job related problems, taking a chunck of our time and energy. Most of it is resolved already, but it delayed us a lot.

We know it's a bummer to wait a bit longer, and we're sorry for any letdown. But trust us, we wouldn't be doing that if it was not necessary, we want to have a proper release, no rushed content or a half-baked update.

The new release should happen in the first half of 2024, but as always we'll keep you posted. Thanks for being part of this awesome community and for your patience.
