Friday Progress Report 206

Even though this is something so basic that every game has it still takes time to do, we are now working the graphics settings, we want to do it properly so we are also making this menu in a way that supports mod option menus later.

The first setting implemented is obviously the grass, take note that choosing no grass has actual impact on gameplay mechanics as the grass system governs grass crops too.

This screenshot is fresh from my brother’s computer who has just finished implementing the grass mode setting, I will make it pretty later.

In other news Eduron model is done, I might add him to the demo after all replacing one of the “chest shops”

I started planning my next character, Catarina the shopkeeper, I will have more to show next week.

Demo sneakpeek and Eduron rigged

Its a Very early demo build, the menu is still not done, but if anyone wanted to take a look at the building system here it is, just a warning, it is buggy and unfinished, we are still polishing it.

Eduron modeling and rigging is done, the only thing needed is to paint his textures, should be done in a day or two

He is the only character to have facial rigging and will animate quite differently from the others, he is quite unique after all.

This demo won’t have him btw, all new characters will only appear on the Early access release, and we have a few more planned for this year.

Friday Progress Report 204

Still working on Eduron, his model will be the most unique of all characters, having animated facial features while other characters just change textures

Will probably need one more week to finish the design

The building system is done for now, bugs solved and is fully functional, still lacks the deeper features like: blueprint mode, copy/paste/export/import, and support, but for the demo it is enough.

My brother is now finishing some problems in the save system like wild grass not saving properly, after that we just need to finish the config menus and the demo is done.

Sorry for the short report, but it has been mostly bugfixes this week.

Most of the building system bugs have been fixed, there were errors on the core of the system and the way the building grid data was set up. I would say it is 95% done now, unless more problems are found.

I went back to work on the characters, we promised 20 characters at launch, so we have to make at least 5 more, we had a list of characters we wanted to make, but we will have to prioritize characters relevant to gameplay, mostly shopkeepers.

Starting by the more unique of all, the local Smith and Engineer! A dwarf named Eduron, in our setting dwarves are all intelligent constructs, they are basically golems with human-level intellect and reproduce by building their child, building a dwarf takes decades due to the rarity of materials required and the amount of fine detailed work making all the magical circuits. For this reason dwarves do not enter intimate relationships with other beings, Eduron will not be a love rival nor target for Adam.

But if you gain his friendship and trust maybe he will show you his finest work in progress one day, and maybe even let you help build it.

The game will now start on this charming screen instead of the placeholder we used before, the camera pans around the city and loops with the music, there are a few issues right now with LOD and grass not rendering in some areas, but we will fix it soon.

Speaking of fix we are hammering the building system bugs, and should be working properly in a week or two.

Next is the implementation of the menus, save/load, graphical settings, audio and controls, as soon as we finish these we will polish everything and release this demo, unfortunately we won’t make in time for the Steam festival in June, but we plan joining in October with a very polished demo.
