Friday Progress Report 310

We are adding clothing customization for the character creator, there will be a Hue slider to modify the color of the entire piece, plus some clothing pieces will have parts that can be colored individually like the hearts in the image bellow.

The city overhaul is about 40% done, the central area and the library got the most changes so far.

Good news, turns out most of Adam's animations do work on the female model, some are quite wonky, but we can replace them over time, we will only need to remake about a dozen of animations.

The female model will have sliders for Height, Breasts and Hips, as well as options for all the current hairstyles with a Hue color slider. Some clothes do clip a bit on Min and Max breast size, since they are made for moderate sizes.

The male model will have less options for now since we only have one adult male character and one set of clothes, we will add more later.

Some clothing combinations are not designed to be used together and will clip each other, but we will let the player use whatever they want.

Right now I am redoing the rigging on some hairs now that I understand better how to make it good, so Elly and Sasha's hair will move better.

While the town is still being reformed my brother did good progress on the character customization, you can now unequip Adam clothes, and as soon we make more you will be able to swap pieces.

Now we are going to start testing the main character animations on the female models to see how much work it will be making playable female characters.

My brother decided to try improve the lighting since just changing the shaders didn't do much to make the town look good, since I am already reworking all buildings this is a good opportunity, since they need to be changed to generate good lightmaps.

One of the buildings getting the most change is the Museum, it now has a door to the central plaza in the second floor (the happy duck face) And you can now stand near the island map and look at it properly

But the biggest change is that there will now be built-in terrariums and aquariums for the player to deliver Shimmering fish and insects they find

I am pretty much redoing the whole building, while optimizing it, the museum will be bigger, better and have a lesser triangle count.

You will soon be able to change Adam's name (will be available next update) this will be the first step in character customization, at first you will begin as Adam and can change it in the character skills and stats screen, but later you will choose the character name at the start.
Character customization will be a feature exclusive to the main build, the demo will only allow playing as Adam (with changed name), we will add male character customization first, then we will add female afterwards because we will need to make new animations, also the female model will have more customization options because we made the model a lot more flexible (breast/hips size and stuff)

Playing as a custom character will give an option to make Adam an NPC you will be able to befriend/romance.

But before that we are still overhauling the materials and lighting, just chancing the town materials to use the new shader we have on the characters didn't work out, we are still testing other solutions.

While my brother works on lighting I have been reworking the town, most buildings had embarrassingly bad topology, a ton of unconnected edges, lonely floating vertexes and excessive amount of triangles, I am basically redoing the whole thing now that I have more experience, the green buildings got a topology overhaul and the red one is being worked on. after redoing the shapes I will still need to redo all UV mapping and then paint new stylized textures to match the anime style of the characters. It will be more than a month of work, specially now that I am job hunting.

The exploration update is officially delayed.
