Rockstar's Agent was compromised because open worlds and spies don't mesh well, Ex-GTA writer Dan Houser says

Cancelled Rockstar espionage flick Agent ended up being filed away without releasing because the studio found a spy narrative impossible to reconcile with their open-world approach to games, according to long-time GTA writer Dan Houser. Despite that, Rockstar subsequently ended up getting halfway up the road of a secret agent-centric GTA 5 DLC before opting to don cowboy hats instead.

If the name Agent isn't ringing any bells for you, Rockstar announced what would've been their take on a Bond-style spy game at E3 2009, attaching a PS3 exclusive tag to it. One would assume it'd likely have hit PC at some point, had it not ended up gradually fizzling out into cancellation instead.

GTA 6? What GTA 6? Veteran Rockstar leaker suggests Grand Theft Auto 4 port for current-gen consoles is in development and could drop later this year

It might not be the mid to late 2000s right now, but that's not for a lack of trying on the behalf of publishers keen to get us all playing the likes of Oblivion and Gears of War again. As GTA 4 turns 17, ex-Rockstar technical lead says that if GTA 6 was his baby, he "wouldn’t release any additional trailers" because it's a "boss move"

We still don't know GTA 6's exact release date, and even the endless cries for Rockstar to release a second trailer feel like they've died down from their moon-obsessed peak. Take-Two's been pretty open about this radio silence being a part of its plans, and now one of GTA 4's key devs has said that not only does he reckon those plans are the right call, if it were up to him, GTA 6 wouldn't get a second trailer at all.

Massive GTA 5 Liberty City modding project bites the dust after "friendly takedown" chat with Rockstar, dev says there's "no negativity" between it and Take-Two

A massive modding project which had brought a full re-creation of GTA 4's Liberty City to GTA 5 has gone the way of most pedestrians who cross a street Michael, Franklin, or Trevor happen to driving down. After a conversation with Rockstar Games, which the mod's developers have stated wasn't "a DMCA, rather a friendly takedown", it's been pulled from the internet.

Somebody recreated all of GTA 4's Liberty City in GTA 5 aaaaand it's gone

In what has become fine tradition, I have learned of an amazing mod on the same day I have learned that the mod has been kiboshed by publishers. The mod in question is the GTA 5 Liberty City Preservation Project, a six year project that rebuilds GTA 4's Liberty City in GTA 5's world. It launched earlier this month - and now it is no more, for Rockstar have descended like briefcase-wielding peregrine falcons and performed what is being called a "friendly takedown" on modding team World Travel. My brother did a "friendly takedown" on me once, and my elbow still doesn't bend the right way.
