Tire Friend News

Tweaks to physics, UI, and settings.

Exciting stuff here: some things are very slightly different!

Among other things:
  • Screen resolution options are more straightforward. Hopefully, it all still works! (I do need to fix how UI scaling changes with window size and screen resolution, though.)
  • All of the Options tabs (aside from Data and, of course, Steam Feedback) have a button to restore defaults.
  • There should be a lot fewer reading/writing to save/settings files. Which should speed up loading times, especially on lower-end machines.
  • Tire Friend himself has a couple of visual indicators for some of the difficulty options (Panic/Leak/Challenge Mode, Tire "Physics" Mode, and air leak rate) in the hub world. May need to make these more obvious.
  • Tire Friend jumps a little bit higher.
  • Some levels have been tweaked. In one level, I shoehorned in some Ring Lasers because they work better than rotating burners.
  • Some more level stats are tracked, including whether you've beaten a level in Panic/Leak/Challenge Mode and your largest score multiplier. They're not displayed yet, but they will be.
  • Pause screen in-level also displays your best time, best score, and your current score multiplier. Pretty sure that's new since last time, anyway.
  • Some bug fixes.

All of these are in the full version and the demo.

Let me know if anything broke. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Let me know if you've tested the game on a widescreen or 4K monitor, because I don't have access to any of that.

Happy tiring!

Options tweaks all around...

Among other things, now the screen resolution option works.

...as far as I know. But I also don't have two monitors. Or one super widescreen one.

If you run into issues, or if you have suggestions on how to handle window, screen, or accessibility options, please let me know.

Happy Tiring!

Very small update...

Tweaks. Also this WIP title screen.

Happy tiring!

Full version, dusty gears, and gizmos!

Fresh off the heels of that update, a new level's available in the full version. ...which itself is out of free-to-keep. Still pretty cheap for now, though. But if you've already downloaded it, you've still got it.

From here on, pretty much every option and quality of life update will also be added to the demo version -- the main difference between the demo and the full version will be the levels available. Saved games should additionally automatically transfer between the demo and full version -- seems to work in my own testing.

Levels might be tweaked or reordered during Early Access.

Happy tiring!

You've got options: Difficulty, graphics, and more!

A couple of things.

The game now has a Difficulty menu, where you can set the game's speed and even enable a couple challenges. Right now, you can only access it between levels (at the hub world or title screen). These affect your score, but nothing else. I'm still working on how all of that behaves, and it's bound to change during Early Access. Let me know if you have suggestions!

If you disable full screen mode, you can (or should be able to?) drag the window to resize. It should snap to one of a couple different aspect ratios. I've opted to not automatically scale the UI when this happens, but the option is still available. Let me know if you have suggestions!

There are also some other options in the menu, like gamma adjustment (Graphics) and disabling screen shake effects (Camera). Let me know if you have.. et cetera!

Some other items:
  • I'm also working on making the very bottom graphics quality run on the lowest of the low-end machines.
  • If you get defeated five times in a level, an assist item known as the Bubble will spawn.
  • If you collect a Powerup but don't want it, you can just put it back where it was.
  • On the Pause screen, there's a POINT OF ADVICE with a hint at the very top of the screen. It's randomly selected, so you can keep pausing and unpausing to see them all. For now. Still working on how this behaves, and I might be able to categorize or contextualize the hints.
