Tire Friend News

Working on improving the game's overall performance after more feedback. It seems at least a little bit smoother now, but I only have one machine to test on. If you (yes, you!) have a computer, and if you like tires or platformers, check it out.

There's still a ways to go to make Tire Friend silky smooth, but that's some progress.

...especially in the tutorial level ("Driver's Education"). I've listened to direct feedback and watched a lot of gameplay videos.

So now, the floors are brighter so that drop shadows will guide your jumps. And bouncing ("Become Bouncy") is pretty much enforced, so that you're taught that it's a thing that you can actually do.

The tutorial level is important to get right, and suggestions are always welcome. Tell me what worked and what didn't -- in the tutorial level and elsewhere. I'm listening.

After feedback, I've changed how levels are unlocked.

Each requires a certain number of Golden Hubcaps (Medals). But reaching the finish line nets you five of them, and there are 10 more that you can get in each level. Thresholds are generally set so that you'll have to beat the previous levels(s) beforehand first, but the Hubcaps essentially let you skip ahead. They'll be good for skipping past troublesome levels, once there are more levels. There might be some rebalancing and UI tweaks in the near future. We'll see.

After a long, long time as a mere Playtest, Tire Friend has graduated to a feature-complete Early Access release! There are menus and save games and everything!

There's still a lot of work to be done, and that's where you come in. Give it a shot and tell me what you think. You can expect some pretty rapid updates, with new levels, refinements, polish, tweaks, bug fixes, and story.
